We have leveraged our 30+ years of experience with file systems to create a small and efficient implementation that is ideally suited to embedded applications.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Use exFAT?<\/h2>\n<p>By using our Embedded\u00a0solution for the Microsoft exFAT File System, you can avoid the inherent limitations of the FAT32 specification. exFAT support file sizes and storage media limits that greatly exceed the capacity of any storage media in existence today. To summarize, exFAT supports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Storage media of any size, up to 256 TB<\/li>\n<li>Max file size: 128 PiB (128 x 2<sup>50<\/sup> bytes)<\/li>\n<li>Long file names: up to 255 characters long, using the UTF-16 character set<\/li>\n<li>Multi-Language support using the UTF-16 character set<\/li>\n<li>Transactional exFAT (TexFAT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2>Features of our\u00a0exFAT File System<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Designed to the exFAT specification.<\/strong>\u00a0 This is a not a \u201creverse-engineered\u201d implementation\u00a0which may, or may not, conform to the exFAT specification. We worked with Microsoft to ensure you\u00a0get an implementation that meets the specification and is Microsoft approved. This includes testing\u00a0the implementation with Microsoft\u2019s exFAT verification tools which are only available to Microsoft\u00a0approved licensees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coded to rigorous standards<\/strong>. We use a coding standard that is based on the MISRA 2012\u00a0guidelines, and we run the code through rigorous checks to ensure compliance to those standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OS and device independent.<\/strong> This allows our exFAT implementation to be easily ported to your\u00a0environment. Two files are required to port, one for device access (open, close, read block, write\u00a0block), and one for OS access (memory alloc and free, mutex lock and unlock). We supply ports to\u00a0popular OSes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Optimizations for indexing and playing media files.<\/strong>\u00a0 Special features are available to allow\u00a0media libraries to be optimally indexed and efficiently played. This is a critical feature for\u00a0entertainment and automotive infotainment application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Small foot print.<\/strong> Designed for smaller footprint applications, ideal for embedded applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read only version available.<\/strong> A compile time option allows you to build a read only version of\u00a0exFAT to further reduce code footprint and to ensure that the media is not written in read-only\u00a0applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feature rich API.<\/strong>\u00a0 Our feature rich API\u00a0 includes the standard file and directory access functions,\u00a0as well as advanced search functions, media indexing functions, higher level file and directory\u00a0operations, and diagnostic and utility functions.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2>Summary of Functions Provided<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Volume Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>These functions allow exFAT and TexFAT volumes to be created, mounted and administered.\u00a0Includes: format, mount, unmount, get attributes, get\/set volume name, cache flush,\u00a0commit (TexFAT), and obtain bad cluster count.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directory Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>Manage hierarchical directories within the exFAT\/TexFAT volume. Includes: create, open, close,\u00a0rename, read, rewind, get parent, and get root.<\/p>\n<p><strong>File Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>Manage files within directories. Includes: create, open, close, rename, touch, seek, read, write,\u00a0copy, diff, flush, get size, get\/set attributes, and get timestamps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Search Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>Search for files and directories within an exFAT volume.\u00a0 Search functions allow matching by\u00a0filename, date, and file attributes. Search scope can be a directory, directory branch, or entire\u00a0tree. Search can include a custom function to execute such as extracting metadata from files that\u00a0match search criteria, which provides a quick and convenient way to create media indexes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>String Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>These functions allow character and string conversion between ASCII, Unicode, and UTF-8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Utility Functions:\u00a0<\/strong>Various functions for obtaining and\u00a0 displaying statistics, error information, file, directory and\u00a0volume structures, as well as allocating and freeing exFAT resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transaction Support:\u00a0<\/strong>TexFAT incorporates transaction-safe semantics to ensure file system integrity over power fail\u00a0and catastrophic shutdown, and incorporates a commit, rollback mechanism.
