PRAYER: A Few Thoughts on Prayer and Praying

Prayer“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
–Luke 11:2-4

Praying is one of the most important activities a believer can do.

Prayer is communication with the Father, who is the source of all to the believer.

Protection, provision, wisdom, guidance, faith: praying to God Almighty opens up those ultra-important lines of communication to provide ALL the things the believer needs.

Books on prayer and praying appear to be very popular in the churches. Some of these books feature information which is not found in the Bible. such as using chalk to draw a circle and praying inside of it; praying in a certain manner in order to “force” God to the supplicant’s will; or, praying certain prayers which have a “magical” effect because of the words which are said.

Another popular trick is recommending practices found in gnostic or extra-biblical sources rooted in Jewish esoteric tradition and passing them off as if they came from God Almighty Himself or are a part of biblical Judaism.

MANY of these practices have more in common with sorcery, witchcraft, magic spells and the occult than they do with Christianity.

Jesus gave the apostles His view on praying–as well as a sample prayer–in Luke 11:2-4 (This is also recorded in Matthew 6:9-13).

A FEW TIPS

  1. When praying, it is not necessary to memorize certain words or prayers as some do: the believer should just talk to the Father.
  2. The believer should set aside a quiet time each day to go to the Father in prayer. This doesn’t necessarily have to be the same time each day, but if it is, one not only will look forward to this time of peace and prayer, but it also becomes part of one’s daily routine.
  3.  The Christian should get his guidance for prayer from the Bible–NOT the numerous popular “Christian” books written on the subject.
  4. God Almighty knows the needs of the praying person before that person does. So most prayer time can be spent on asking for others. It is a truth that if the believer did not pray for certain individuals, they simply would not ever get prayed for. This should spur the believer on to pray for those who “despitefully use you.”
  5. Praying for those who curse and despitefully use you is also a certain way to know that that the offending party has been forgiven by the one doing the praying.

“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
–Matthew 6:15

PRAY ALWAYS: End Times Preparation

Praying hands

THE BELIEVER’S HOTLINE TO GOD

“Pray without ceasing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17

The Bible has quite a lot to say about prayer and praying.

One feature of the believer’s prayer: Prayer should be a constant aspect of the Christian’s waking life.

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”
Romans 12:12

Prayer by the believer is his lifeline to heaven. Prayer is the hotline to the throne room of God.

As time grows ever shorter, the believer finds himself drawn to prayer. Many times, prayer is the only time peace is obtainable in this wicked and chaotic world.

The believer should be aware of any spare time which can be used for prayer. This includes time spent in the car, but it also includes any interval of time available at home.

The believer is increasingly being drawn to his knees.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
Ephesians 6:18

As far as prayer in the end times, there are two instructions from Jesus concerning prayer in the end times. One is more specific in its instructions.

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
Luke 21:36

The other is more general.

“Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”
Mark 13:33

BOTH command the Christian to both WATCH and PRAY.

As the time of the end grows nearer, Christians should ALWAYS BE PRAYING.

The enemy knows the importance of prayer. This is why prayer time is regularly interrupted by all manner of distractions.

Unlike most activities, the more one prays, the more refreshed afterwards the person praying becomes.

Prayer: there is NOTHING more important in the times in which we live.

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”
Luke 18:1

IN CONCLUSION:
For the times in which we live, there is no more important advice than PRAY ALWAYS.

PRAYER CIRCLES: Another Pagan Practice in the Church

PAGAN PRAYER CIRCLES: Many Christian Churches pray in circles. Is this Biblical?
PAGAN PRAYER CIRCLES: Many Christian Churches pray in circles. Is this Biblical?

WHERE DID PRAYER CIRCLES ORIGINATE?

WHEN DID THEY ENTER THE CHURCH?

HOW DID THEY ENTER THE CHURCH?

PRAYER CIRCLES – Praying in a circle, holding hands: where does the practice come from?  Why can’t one find it in the Bible?  Where did prayer circles originate and how and when did they enter the Christian Church?  A 15-year-old study by Ed Tarkowski answers many questions–and predicts where the practice may be heading.

CHRISTIANS PRAYING IN A CIRCLE: WHERE DID IT ORIGINATE?

1999, Ed Tarkowski published a four-part study on prayer circles, a practice that was, at the time, just gaining popularity in some Christian churches. While the study is full of useful information on the origins of such rituals, it’s extremely interesting to read the study 15 years later.

Prayer circles have a long history of use among pagans, witches, and other occult practitioners.  But the use of the prayer circle in Christianity, like so many other modern rituals, practices and doctrines, can be traced to the American apostate church.

In 1999, Tarkowski noticed the increased use of prayer circles by Christians, but he also noticed that Christians were late-comers to the prayer circle game.  Others had used these circles for decades–sometimes centuries.

If you doubt that prayer circles are so widespread, or such a powerful tool, read the list below of just a few of the examples of prayer circles that I found on the World Wide Web. Besides these sites, there are numerous New Age and Christian Chat Sessions (used by Internet users to discuss various topics) that include prayer circles or discussions sbout them. As you will see, the circles are prevalent in the apostate church, the New Age, and even in the secular world. The whole world is being prepared to welcome the arrival of the Beast of Revelation 13, and to follow after him.

One of the most interesting of Tarkowsi’s findings concerned the mention of joining hand-in-hand in the Bible its connection with those who intend evil.

I did some searching in Strong’s Concordance, and found nothing regarding circles, except for one reference to God as the one “that sitteth upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22.) Next, I looked up what it said about “joining hands” in prayer, but that didn’t help either. Then I searched through the KJV and Strong’s for various combinations of the words “join” and “hand”, and “hold” and “hand.” What resulted from that search turned out to be very enlightening. I found only two Scriptures regarding “joining hands,” but they were not associated with prayer. They were:

Proverbs 11:21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

Proverbs 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

The Prayer Circle: What is its Unbiblical Origin? – This is the introduction to the  four-part study with links to the other sections.

PRAYER CIRCLES: Another pagan/occult practice which has entered Christian churches
PRAYER CIRCLES: Another pagan/occult practice which has entered Christian churches

When a link to this study was first posted five or six months ago, it offended some.  Those it offended 1- couldn’t point to a single instance in the Bible of believers praying in a circle; and, 2- are strong believers in sanctification by participation.  If they do it, it must be holy.  It’s holy because they participate in it.

This study got this writer thinking back: not once could he ever remember praying in a circle–and the opportunities for public or church prayer over the years were many.  This practice was unknown to him until he joined a church which endorsed this style of prayer.

PRAYER CIRCLES: Witchcraft in Charismania – Some additional thoughts.

What ETPR said back in November 2013 [End Times Prophecy Headlines: November 30-December 1, 2013]:

Prayer Circles: Their Unbiblical Origins, part 2 – This 1999 article warned of the invasion of prayer circles into the church, predating The Circle Maker by 14 years.  It’s part of a four-part series which is both informative and interesting.  It’s conclusion is that prayer circles are preparing Christians for the coming one-world beast religion.

And this from November 19, 2013:

DECEPTION – This writer often remarks about the deception which envelopes the USA.  It is everywhere in our culture and especially in our media. The reader who does not think that this deception is blanketing him is a  reader already deceived.

One of the enemy’s greatest deceptions is the use of the “Christian” label.  Slap a “CHRISTIAN” label on a book–voila!  What is filled with occult themes is now “Christianized” and thought perfectly safe for consumption.  The same process is used for films, music, DVDs and other media.

How many churches have mindlessly pushed cleverly-packaged media to their members because it carried a “Christian” label?

The list is huge and gotten larger over the last 20 years.  There are plenty of Christians sitting in pews–or chairs depending on where one sits–who argue against the Bible using the deceptions picked up from books, films and/or TV labeled “Christian.”

There are many examples; for now, Harry Potter, The Harbinger and The Circle Maker will do.

Churches in America are under an unrelenting assault.  The weapons used to deliver the enemy’s message are the culture, the music and the ignorance and pride of many of the very ones manning the walls watching.

“Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
Luke 14:34-35

Do you know the One who will never deceive you?

Before the pagan witchcraft of Mark Batterson’s The Circle Maker, there were prayer circles. In fact, one might say that without the preparation of prayers circles, The Circle Maker would not have been possible.

The enemy is a master deceiver.

“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.”
Matthew 24:4

Some Resources

The Circle Maker is a book by Mark Batterson.  The book was named “Christian Book of the Month” by Books-A-Million in 2013.  The Circle Maker also received the world’s stamp of approval: it was  a New York Times best-seller.

Batterson is the author of multiple books, including In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity  and Soulprint: Discovering Your Divine Destiny. His latest book is entitled The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears [and was released in December 2011.]

Comparing Prayer Circles to God’ Word– Can a revival start within a chalk circle?

“Is the practice of drawing a circle in chalk around specific prayers something we as Christians are supposed to be doing? Ever since Mark Batterson’s popular Circle Maker book began sweeping Christendom, we’ve been warning people against pursuing this non-Christian practice, because it is rooted in the occult, and Jesus very specifically showed us what prayer looks like.”

Magic Circle

A magic circle is circle or sphere of space marked out by practitioners of many branches of ritual magic, which they generally believe will contain energy and form a sacred space, or will provide them a form of magical protection, or both. It may be marked physically, drawn in salt or chalk, for example, or merely visualised.

Techniques for casting a circle

There are many published techniques for casting a circle, and many groups and individuals have their own unique methods. The common feature of these practices is that a boundary is traced around the working area. Some witchcraft traditions say that one must trace around the circle deosil three times.

100 Prophecies:

Sorceries referring to witchcraft, magic, or occult practices used to enchant and deceive are also anticipated in the last days (Revelation 9:21; 18:23; 21:8; Isaiah 47:9-15; Micah 5:10-15). Today, interest in the occult is flourishing.

One of the most disturbing aspects of The Circle Maker being embraced by Christians is that there is now a kids’ version: The Circle Maker for Kids: One Prayer can Change Everything.

A “students’ version’ is also being promoted: The Circle Maker, Student Editiion: Dream Big, Pray Hard, Think Long.

More evidence of the end times apostasy.

More evidence of end time deception.

More evidence of the complete lack of discernment among those carrying the self-applied label of “Christian.”

Not just sad but tragic.
