Why Epicurvegan?

Epicurvegan, the blog, started three incarnations ago in 2006. It began as a means of activism through which I could show others that vegan food can be amazing, delicious, and plentiful. It has also been a way of showing that veganism isn’t as extreme or depriving as it’s often thought to be. One of the things I say most often to folks curious about veganism is that since becoming vegan I’ve eaten a much larger variety of foods than I ever did as a non-vegan.

Since coming to terms with my diagnosis of severe candidiasis in February 2011, I’ve decided to take Epicurvegan in a bit of a different direction. While it’s still all about the food, now it will be about creating mouth-watering vegan food free of sugar, gluten, and yeast. At first this seemed like an impossible feat, especially given the dearth of vegan blogs dedicated to what seems like a very restrictive diet. Instead, I’m choosing to view my new vegan diet as a fantastic adventurein which a bounty of fresh ingredients and loads of creativity will lead me to some very tasty discoveries.

Love your blog. Would you be interested in joining the Earthsave team? We have a great group of volunteers. Looking to grow the movement, with the belief that we stand stronger together than divided.

Thank you, Nicole! I feel like I’ve gone to heaven with this website – smart, truly food-appreciative and local.

I just posted an ad on Craigslist trying to find a vegan foodie who could offer up a couple of cooking lessons for me – I’m a month in to making this change and struggling with disastrous attempts to follow recipes with ingredients I’ve never used before – either ruining something that could have been good or perfectly preparing something I don’t enjoy. I’m sure an experienced mentor could make all the difference.

Here is the link to my posting:

If you are interested, fabulous. If not, perhaps you might know someone suitable?

    Thanks again.

Hi Alana: Thank you for your very nice, thougful reply. I’m not sure that I am up for lessons right now, though I am more than happy to help you out any time you have any questions about methods, etc. Feel free to look me up on Twitter or email me directly any time you need a hand or just someone to talk to. I’ve posted your ad link on Twitter, but I would also suggest jumping into the Post Punk Kitchen forums – there’s a specific thread just for Vancouver, and the people there are very nice, very friendly. I’ll do my best to help you out – I know plenty of people would might be interested in giving you a hand πŸ™‚

I enjoy being vegan, I also love the way you said that it doesn’t have to be extremes! I like to think that people are turning more to a plant based diet for health.. As with you, I have a health issue that needs to be addressed. I am osteopenic at the age of 45. I have done tones of research and feel that this is truly the healthiest way for myself.
I find that when I’m creative with my food and my options I am the most happiest, what better way to feed a hungry vegan than with love and creativity.

    Good day Nicole,

Thank you for your references as to BC vegan wines.
As some people still come to your site please update the listing excluding Jackson Triggs from vegans, they are not, and they confirmed that officially. I posted their reply on BC Vegan Wines page.

Hello, great blog. Have you considered trying the pine oil candida cure ? It is an easy protocol and has helped cure many folks of may illness, candida among them. Cheers
