Regulation (EU) No 692/2011 – European statistics on tourism

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THIS REGULATION?

It establishes European Union (EU) rules and methods for the development, production and dissemination of statistics on tourism. It is closely related to Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 on European statistics.

KEY POINTS

EU countries are required to collect, draw up, process and transmit harmonised statistics on supply and demand in tourism.

Data sources

EU countries may produce the necessary statistical data by using a combination of the following different sources: surveys, other appropriate sources (including administrative data) and appropriate statistical estimation procedures.

Tourism is a key sector of the European Union’s (EU) economy. Tourism statistics are collected to assist policymakers as well as those working or operating in the sector.
