INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ‘The United Nations at 80 and the International Protection of Human Rights

On 18 October, the international symposium ‘The United Nations at 80 and the International Protection of Human Rights’ was successfully convened in Changsha, Hunan Province. Hosted by Central South University and organised by its Human Rights Research Centre (National Human Rights Education and Training Base), the symposium brought together nearly 50 experts and scholars from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, alongside international institutions and nations including China, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Russia, Turkey, Yemen, South Africa, and Chad.
Mao Junxiang, Executive Director of the Human Rights Research Centre, Central South University, Changsha, and member of the European Academy of Science and Arts, class V, had been the main organiser of the event. Peter Herrmann (EASA member, class V) contributed by a speech to the debate.
On 19 October 2025, the roundtable discussion on “The United Nations and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights” was successfully held at Central South University in Changsha. The event was hosted by the Human Rights Research Center of Central South University (National Human Rights Education and Training Base). Distinguished guests included Pradeep Wagle from the OHCHR, Peter Herrmann (EASA, class V).The discussion focused on the role of the United Nations in advancing economic, social and cultural rights. The symposium fostered productive exchanges among experts, scholars, and students.
