It fosters impactful cooperation and finds common solutions to joint challenges on a macro-regional level.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Strategy has three objectives:<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Save the Sea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect the Region<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase Prosperity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To achieve these objectives, the Strategy\u2019s Action Plan identifies the most important actions for implementation. The actions are thematically divided into Policy Areas (PAs) which are all linked and contribute to achieving these objectives from different angles and in diverse ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Strategy was the first macro-regional strategy and <a href=\"https:\/\/blue-sea-697d.quartiers047.workers.dev:443\/https\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/LexUriServ\/LexUriServ.do?uri=COM:2012:0128:FIN:EN:PDF\">approved by the European Council<\/a>&nbsp;in 2009 following a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blue-sea-697d.quartiers047.workers.dev:443\/https\/eusbsr.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009_commission-communication-on-eusbsr.pdf\">Communication from the European Commission<\/a>. It was set up as a unique platform for cooperation and coordination with open and transparent participation, inclusiveness, and a multi-level governance approach. The Strategy contributes to a better division of labour and reduces overlaps among existing networks and organisations in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year one member state takes over the Presidency in the Strategy for twelve months. <a The partners in the Region may for example make use of the funding they receive through EU cohesion funds, other EU programmes and financial instruments, and various international financial institutions.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:quote --><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><!-- wp:paragraph --><em>&#8220;[The Strategy] is financially neutral and relies on a coordinated approach, synergistic<\/em> <em>effects and, on a more effective use of existing EU instruments and funds, as well as other<\/em> <em>existing resources and financial instruments.&#8221;<\/em><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><cite><em>Council Conclusions, 2009<\/em><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!-- \/wp:quote --> <!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0European Social Fund Plus,\u00a0European Regional Development Fund,\u00a0Cohesion Fund,\u00a0European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development\u00a0and\u00a0European Maritime and Fisheries Fund are key funding sources of the Strategy.
