Spooky song

Here’s a good song for you creative types, I’m sure you’ll appreciate it! I was thinking what’s that song I like by Hante, or Minuit Machine? (Hante is one half of Minuit Machine) They’re French, so they write about l’amour better than what we mere mortals could ever do!

Lyrics as follows:

Where is this place?
We used to call our home
I burned it down to ashes
You and me
We were doomed before we were born
You were my mirror
You were the light before the dark
I’m facing my tears alone now
Victim of my own crimes

I will fight another day
In the ruins of our fate
And I’m never gonna let you forget me
All of this time in vain
I never cared enough to try
Never look behind the glass
But I’m gonna have to let you forgive me

All of this pain
I used to fear the most
I caused it all by myself
Once again, just to prove that I can’t be loved
You are my shelter
You are the love I cannot waste
I cannot fall from higher
But we can conquer this hell

I will fight another day
In the ruins of our fate
And I’m never gonna let you forget me
All of this time in vain
I never cared enough to try
Never look behind the glass
But I’m gonna have to let you forgive me

I will fight another day
In the ruins of our fate
And I’m never gonna let you forget me
I never cared enough to try
Never look behind the glass
But I’m gonna have to let you forgive me
I never cared enough to try
Never look behind the glass
But I’m gonna have to let you forgive me
All of this time in vain

Pretty fooking good non?

Here’s a song by Hante, (her solo project)

Lyrics for this one are pretty cool too!

I’m such a fool I haven’t seen your true colors
Only black and white emotions left for a blank love

Regrets are for nothing
They will be the foundation of your own downfall

It’s all a bit dark and morbid, or perhaps it’s just more mature in terms of psychological honesty, while still being romantic! Who else could pull off such songwriting!?!

I can’t say which act is better, they’re both brilliant, I been playing them a lot lately! 🙂

Talk about – pop music!

When I was a nipper I got this various artists sampler album called “20 New Wave Hits” back in 1980, it had this song

Icicle Works Perambulator

I thought it was one of the better songs on the album, oh it had Stranglers, Blondie, Gary Numan etc on it, but I heard all that before, Icicle Works had that new indie sound, I check them out from time to time, but its really that one song I like, its a bit surreal, I thought the writing got a bit less interesting by the time they had real hit records such as

Love is a Wonderful Colour

Anyway, Coldplay were on TV the other day doing that

Viva La Vida

I like it, but I wouldn’t want to buy it as I find it intolerable, truly sickening, however, the lyrics are clever and elevate one above the more surreal lyrics of Icicle Works, this analysis got me thinking about VNV Nation’s song

Beloved

They’re also taking things to a spiritual plane, clever lyrics, so I was thinking about how romance has been portrayed down the pop music years from the sexual urges of Elvis to the Beatles more innocent marketing of the yada, yada, yada, well you getting the idea?

It seems to me Icicle Works were more interesting when they were surrealists than when they wrote more directly about rational experiences – whereas groups like Coldplay and VNV just get right into your pants via the quasi religious route, Coldplay “I know St Peter will call my name” and VNV “Eternity awaits”

All super ideas, if a little bonkers!! 😀
