I decided to shorten the length by one row and took out the blues and brighter greens. That made it an even number of blocks across but not lengthwise....so I changed the layout to a zig zag. Now the length is only 8" longer than the width, an awkward rectangular shape, but since this is a bonus quilt and will be gifted, it's going to stay this way. I still need to make 3 more 16 patch blocks to finish the layout.
I first searched my box of 2.5" batik strips and was surprised there were hardly any brown strips in there.
This is the total yield of anything remotely resembling brown.
Next I searched the box of quarter yard or less pieces of batik.
This is the collection I will choose four from and make 2 blocks from each combination of 2 fabrics.
It got up to 45 yesterday and today is predicted to be 50. This is such a relief after the long cold spell we had.

Your new layout is really great, Wanda--I love the 16-patch blocks borders...they really add so much to this one, I think....
Only 18 this early morning--but stars are visible--so clear right now..
Now that borders are done on Baby, Baby. I need to unroll another jelly...and root out a pattern (s) for it...hugs, Julierose
The new layout looks good and with only three more 16 patch blocks to make to have a completed top! Sounds like it is going to take you longer to find some brown fabric than to make the remaining three blocks. LOL!!
That looks really good. Love that border idea. Why is finding the right fabric always the hardest part?
I really like the changes you made on this quilt top ~ the design you created is perfect and the replacement blocks are sure to winners. So good to hear your bitter cold temps are easing up. We’ve had an exceptionally warm winter since December ~ February and forecasted to continue into March.
Oh Wanda, l love this. Perfect. Everything is beautiful. Color, double blocks, and 16s. I don't have the words to tell you how much I love this. Helen Reimers
What a brilliant idea and you'll someday have those blues and greens in a different quilt!
We're up to 45*F today but still have snow (that freezes overnight) in the shady places.
Hugs!
I like the zigzag and good way to use up a lot of that fabric
Not only is this a lovely layout, but those colors just get right in my eyes! So different!.
