♣ Why I Relay . . .

As the Faire draws to a close once again, so does that time of the year come . . . the time where we must bit it farewell, at least for a while.

The fight against cancer is a though one, both for those carrying the fight directly, as well as those who support them. In the end, it is often the latter who remain to stand vigil over the fallen, and to hold bright and high their memories.

And thus, as another year passes, so we remember those who have passed. Their names echo in our hearts, their memory still vivid in our brains, even if much time has passed. But still, we must carry on, with the hope that in the future, cancer will be a thing of the past.

The Faire is a place for just that: hope. With the money RFL gathers every year, with the prayers and efforts of everyone involved, we carry on the fight to bring this terrible affliction to an end. And soon enough, in the memory of my grandmother, of my cousin, of the many friends and acquaintences who I can no longer speak to, but must remember, and in the memory of so many others, we shall bring an end to cancer.

La Brume Rouge

From Cléo de Mérode

We do not disappear. We do not die. We do not fade away. We persevere. We protect. We perpetuate.

Home, For Now

Home at last; home for now. My coachman has left me behind because he must scurry home to his little family, his fishing, his two fair daughters, because he is cautious, as all our residents are. They are prudent, yes? Prudent.

Blogger Highlights III

It’s almost time for goodbyes. Fantasy Faire’s portals close to public today at midnight. (Although it’s possible Fantasy is sleeping in her small fae bed and won’t lock up until Wednesday morning, but we have been promised until midnight, so finish all your Important Things before that!)

Every year the bloggers set an impossible task before me: how to highlight just a few from this crowd of amazingly talented, inspired visual storytellers? Sometimes I make thematic posts, but mostly I just go on instinct, with simple ‘this caught my eye’ and then I take the time to analyze why did it catch my eye, because if it did that to me, it does that to others as well, and the reasons behind that are good to share and understand.

And so, this year’s last blogger highlights with my gratitude to the blogger crew, who were absolutely amazing! They struggled and brainstormed together for solutions to the texture blurring issues that were absolutely abysmal this year (solution: Firestorm’s beta version), they alerted me immediately if a merchant had done a serious oops in their review copy setup so we could prevent worse issues, they traveled the lands, found new shapes and forms and looks and kept on taking pictures of everything they fell in love with… and that is an endless list. Thank you for showing to the rest of the grid why there’s no better place than the Fairelands!

Fairelands Junction :: Fantasy Faire: 2025
Fairelands Junction by Alec Absinthe is a beautiful goodbye to this year’s Fairelands. Through the years the tradition of making both the opening post to encourage people to visit and the goodbye picture to seek personal closure after the whole experience, has become somewhat common and necessary. It is a good way for expressing joy, and learning to let go.

♣ The Temple of . . . Hope?

✏ In times immemorial, they used to call this the Temple of Hope. Crowds would gather every new moon with offerings and prayers, as they knelt and yearned and strengthened their wishes with hope. Thus, they also referred to it as the Temple of Wishes. Nowadays, however, it stood the furthest from hope. That was precisely the reason why they had camped here.

They had arrived to these forgotten ruins some years ago, and made them their home. Even with the collective memory of this place largely gone, there were still some people – odd, foreign travelers mostly – who could recognize the towers and derelict walls for what they once were. Thus, the two made their mission to stop those seeking the now false hope those ruins promised, and save them from turmoil. Perhaps, in doing so, they themselves became a symbol of hope . . .
