As You Like It Scarf Progress and Design

Just to let you take a peak at some knitting this weekend from my stash, I will share these pics.
About 5 months ago, at least, I found a treasure in the junkin' store I frequent, all in a plastic bag and appeared to be skeins of DMC wool. I was first attracted to the colors as I love Colonial blues, reds, greens, etc. So, while resting up over the weekend with Mr. Darcy and 2 movies, I knitted.
Just one skein to another.

I counted after opening the bag!!!!!  53 yes 53 skeins in muted colors. Virtually 10 cents a skein.

I just started knitting, in no special order and then I stacked them like this so I can just pick one up as I go. This will make about a 90 inch scarf, plenty to double and triple with jeans on a winter day.
This DMC 100% virgin wool is imported from France. Washable. Cold water.

I decided not to piece blocks together, just keep knitting from one color to another.
Hence, the name As You Like It scarf. It's stitch therapy. Keeps my hands busy and warm by the woodstove.

This bag was only 5 bucks. If ordered from a store would be over 50.00 bucks.

So I think as they say another man's junk, is another man's treasure can certainly apply here.

I just keep knitting in simple garter one to the other, not really getting disturbed by some irregular threading through the next color.

Keeping it simple.

Picking out and choosing colors.

Designing my own jeans and sweater scarf.

Loving the beautiful colors.

One really interesting thing about this pack~~~there is only ONE skein of Dark Brown. Yup.

From chaos.

 To organized.

To systemized in the colors I like.

But the brown is special all by itself.

Only 46 more to go! I've got some buttons in my stash I might use on this, as well.

Simple finds.  Simple joy. Simply colorful.

I picked up my smaller needle for 1 over 1 stitching on my pincushion. Didn't cross stitch much on it. I got side tracked to knit.

Threads in for Red Rosies Pink Posies sampler!

Well, on Thursday I fell down about 5-6 steps on the hardwood stairs and messed up my bum and my back. I had just got up and can't see real good with glaucoma first thing in the morning so I missed a step midway down. The doctor said it's because the optic nerve pressure is high but most of the time it's well controlled with eye drops.
This is the first chance I've got to really get some relief after medicines and a very ,very hot shower. Heat is the key right now. I think I will be ok, but rattled up the spine pretty bad.

I've been sitting on my side and yesterday listening to books on Kindle. This morning was really hard to get up but like I said later with heat and some TLC, I'm going to be ok.

This afternoon, Mr. Darcy went up to the mailbox and my threads came in the mail for this project/sampler set from Belinda designed for donations to her breast cancer awareness 60 mile walk.
I'm using some 28 ct white linen already in my stash.
I'm making the pincushion first and decided to do 1 over 1 which is challenging for me even at 28 ct.
When I start the large sampler, I will be stitching 2 over 2, just for ease of eyesight. I will probably frame it, not sure yet but I know it will be larger. A larger box is another option.
Here's a look-see~~

It is color therapy for my bum and back. (along with heat and TLC)

These scissors I've had for years. I don't know if you remember when I had a couple that I sold. I kept a pair and thought them fitting for this purpose.

You can see the finished pincushion in the pictures. I will have to say that Blue Ribbon Designs (Belinda) has THE best detailed patterns I've ever seen from a designer. I love the way she writes a detailed finishing instructions, small and enlarged portions of the big sampler in the middle, including 17 pages. I also like the fact that I could help her in her goal for her 60 mile walk (of which she started today I believe)

The color Emma's Pink was darker than I had imagined in the pictures online but I still love it.

Just to show you my illuminated magnifying glasses I've had for about 2 years now. I got them on a trip to Alexandria to In Stitches. They have come in handy for times like snuggling on the couch with Mr. Darcy while stitching. Abbie barks at me when I wear them.

So I can truly say this has lifted my spirits today I just love color. Any color threads or yarn is good for the soul.

We just finished watching the amazing Georgia vs. Auburn football game. I never liked football in my life until my DH came into my life and with his patience, he has answered all those questions I had about the plays, the game, scoring and now we look forward to watching games together. :)

We thought GA was going to win alllllllllllmost to the end when a guy knocked the ball out to intercept and the other team just caught it and made a touchdown. Man! The excitement. We screamed so much at the TV to very end pulling for GA until my throat is sore!!! :P

I hope you had a great Saturday and enjoying lots of color too,
Jennifer

Sampler Floss Organizer

Hello Monday morning!

It's bright, sunny and cool here in the mountains this morning, just a lovely day!

Last night I continued on with organizing my stitching studio with a crate I got from the junkin' store. I stained it in Colonial Maple which will go well with the other things in the space.
I saved alot by getting this and staining. The purpose?  To organize my sampler threads in floss bags.
I use the floss bag system and have one box for 12 years that holds ALL my DMC and it's packed!

I presently have the Gentle Art, Crescent Colors, Silks, and Weeks Dye Works on large rings with floss bags. Now I can organize and retrieve more easily. The sections are perfect size for the floss bags and they will be arranged in alphabetical order and by company.

I think this was basically a wine crate in pine before. If you use a floss bag system for your threads, you might want to economize and find one of these. You can paint or stain it to your liking and save tons on wood organizers for your floss!

I finished another design last night as well. Inspired by the SuperMoon of the weekend, where the moon was closest to the Earth, I designed a sampler called June Moon. Be on the lookout for it soon!

Well, off to do chores and continue Spring/Summer cleaning. I hope you have a great day!

Purl of Wisdom~~ Remember that just as old crates can be repurposed at any time, so is our life. We are never too old to be repurposed in a direction that is totally different, yet at the same time, serving others, our family and God.

Finished Lacy Keyhole Scarf plus My Token of Affection Knit pocket

Lacy Keyhole Scarf and My Token of Affection set
in LILAC

Lacy Keyhole Scarf designed by Stephanie Japel inspired me to stitch this in Lilac/Lavender as we all know that the color, the scent, anything lavender exudes calmness.

This scarf can be worn year around. It's stitched with 80/20 cotton/ silk Cascade Ultra Pima Silk yarn from a yarn shop. The softness cannot be described here as it stitches like butter and feels delicate to the skin. The scarf can also be worn as a headband with the frill and lacy section to the side or at the top. The quality yarn is excellent.

The second part of the set is designed by myself. I call it My Token of Affection Pocket. It's knit in the same yarn and is very versatile, dainty and embellished with a mother-of-pearl vintage button I had in my stash. It's for that special small something that you treasure.

I finished this set today and just put on Etsy shop. See the sidebar to click for the Etsy shop.
I mailed out orders yesterday and will mail out more on Thursday. Thank you so much for your business!!!! I love needlework and more importantly love to share my creativity with you.

If you have any questions, please comment and I will answer or write me at email jenniferann_fox@yahoo.com.

Your comments are always appreciated on the blog. I read each and every one of them.

Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (NIV)

On the homefront this week, I also finally got the chance to see the movie Becoming Jane. I think Anne Hathaway did a wonderful job!!! The movie was austen awesome~

Mr. Darcy is quite gifted with woodworking and he has built Abbie a bed. It's finished and she has been sleeping in it at night with no problem. In fact she would like to take her morning nap in it I think. We have not finished it with paint or stain yet but when we finish it, I will show pics.
The wood was entirely wood found to be trashed. He took something that was going to be thrown away and made something beautiful and functional with it.

It's time for me to get busy stitching and watching my favorite channel, the Inspiration channel. We love The Waltons and never tire of every episode. We just finished off some Dutch Apple Pie with whipping cream and tummies are full!

Feathers in the Nest has a facebook page. I have yet to figure out how to get the badge on the blog. I know, I know......it's probably something simple but until then catch up with me on Facebook by simply typing in the search, Feathers in the Nest. I love to connect with stitchers all over the world.

Adding to stash and some lovely surprises!

Drool time!

Here are many stashing adds. Tanya, as sweet as she is, gave me the French Folio booklet and the Royal Wedding Souvenir, a very cute knitted pocket (l love the button too) which I can keep my business cards in, and also a beautiful fabric quarter of English print. I love it!

And this wonderful wedding is this month now---April. Probably will stitch this first.

I so wish I could knit.........

And then on our visit to In Stitches shop I got a little crazy to get these:

A tote by Homespun Elegance.

another bag ( I love bags) to organize my projects.

I have a smaller one and this one is a bit bigger to hold my Qsnaps.

And I've admired this beautiful Pink Manor from Blackbird Designs for a long time. I have the perfect sampler wall for this.

and pulled the colors.

And the lighting in this hotel room doesn't do this justice. It's a beautififul Irish Cream, 30 ct linen.

And picked up a few threads I needed for other projects.

And lovely thread winders from Rosewood Manor.

And Patricia, at the store, was kind enough to put in some freebies!

For Easter coming up.

I loved the visits today and can't say thanks enough. Tanya, has been such a good listener, and is understanding and fun to hang out with.

I think I have a few things to add to my basket!!!!!!

This is clearly a very unusual material and I can't wait to figure out how to finish with the Royal Sampler she designed.

Thank you again, for all those sweet things.

Zip over to her blog and check those out. The French Folio is so elegant
and our breakfast at La Madailine was also cozy and delicious food.

All in one word!   Wonderful!

Tanya introduced me to blogging about 3 years ago and I have stitched many of her designs. They are simply beautiful. The colors, the patterns, everything are inspiring.

and read more on our day.

I think I'm going to call it a day. I have a busy serious day tomorrow listening to Women's Health Updates. I plan to take some cross stitching while I listen. Maybe I can show you some progress tomorrow......

stay tuned......

Stay safe,
Jennifer

Twisted Tuesday---Eye drops and Eye candy? Put your big shades on.

First of all, thank you so much for understanding and the prayers which are so needed right now as we work through this eye issue. Problem is, I miss  stitching BAD, and by the end of work days, it is miserable after computer use and headlights on the cars after dark. Bottom line is:  I've got to adjust to this as I have no choice in the matter. The drops it seems has caused the cornea to swell and hurt and hopefully will be getting better with use. The constant feeling that I have a piece of glass in there is driving me somewhat nuts though. I'm really trying as these seem to have the least systemic side effects supposedly.

So in the meantime, I've figured that I definitely can  do something with glare. They have made me some prescription glasses that was supposed to help for use inside but not much with the computers. BUT, I'm off today, so I'm experimenting with just wearing BIG, BIG Jacki 0 sunglasses to finish my reading on the computer and it's given me some relief. I will not be freaking people at work out with wearing these indoors but man, does it help with high lighting situations.

Next step is to google a computer screen glare thingie, I think there is one to attach to the monitors.

Now, Abbie, on the other hand, is probably thinking I've really lost it wearing big sunglasses to write on the computer, but I just gave her a treat so she is fine. She just wants a pair too.

I have some mail goodies I got and also a finish I had stitched way long ago and had put in to a big matted large frame but found it this week to be just right for a thrift store find several months ago. I have 2 of these perfect size frames for Little House Needleworks Proverbs thread pack series. Here is one I finished a WAY long time ago but in a new frame.

When it's officially framed, straightening and stretching later, I'll show a pic. Right now, just put the frame over the finish for you to get a peek and when my other framer partner comes home, will work on finishing it.

Other mail goodies arrived included some flosses and patterns I ordered around or after Christmas, the time blended together.
Anyways, the flosses are luscious and so are the patterns.
I like to occasionally order from EBay stores and I will let you know that Liberty Primitives is my fave Ebay store. I wrote Nancy a note because the service and shipping is great. She always puts a lovely note with at least 3 freebies as well that are soooo cute.

The flosses are from a different place.

La D Da
Noble Wife

This is from Annie Beez and it has intrigued me for awhile. I love the colors, the design, and the many interpreted meanings of this saying by W. Blake.

"A Robin Redbreast in a Cage, puts all Heaven in a Rage"

and some freebies too

3 of them

Very pretty Tulip Star Sampler

I particulary love the color Uniform Blue. I used it last year when I stitched Brandon's sampler pillowkeep. It was already in the kit and I just love that color.

and have something I designed hopefully one day to stitch the model using it.

Cameo pink and Strawberry Parfeit and Raspberry Parfeit ( of which I needed to replace from Abbies Christmas Morning Sampler I just finished.

Vintage lace, Morris Blue, Old Blue Paint, Old Red paint.....on and on. I love them all.

There are several things today to be thankful for, more than I originally ever thought possible.

1.  Large, Jackie O sunglasses.......for indoors while reading or stitching.

2. Forgetting right now about learning to stitch on 40 or more count and feeling ok with it. My favorite count is 32. This is a hobby not a marathon race or competition.

3.  Going to bed at 9 or 10 o'clock every night for more rest. I have to make myself do this as I'm a night owl by nature but after a couple of weeks, it's becoming second nature.

4. No more night driving if I can help it at all. (actually this will help pedestrians and other drivers) ;)

5. Still having the ability to enjoy designing a bit, even if I do wear sunglasses to do it. LOL

Adjusting to change. Some big, some not so big.

Some sudden, some not so sudden.

Some alone, some with others.

Whatever the case, as one of my wise elderly friends told me at my young age of 27,

There's only one constant in life and that's change.

One more very thankful thing I have right now is Kindle. The Kindle reader's  Read-to-Me feature is WONDERful!
I have listened to a couple of novels through the weekend and even though the cons of this feature is a somewhat monotone audio, it still is wonderful to have this feature.
I'm finishing up a novel that is very inspiring.

You can go to my GoodReads page and see the short review of it

or go to Amazon Books online and if you have a Kindle, read a sample for free.
This book is so good and a TRUE story and amazing.

Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back
by Todd Burpo

If you have a loved one in Heaven, this book will give you amazing peace as you read. It's a page-turner.

Thanks again for all your comments, support, and patience. They mean more to me than you'll ever know. Fixing to listen to the rest of this book and rest.

Till later,
Jennifer
