of promise unfulfilled.

yes the air is polluted with it
it may be the death of us yet some say
more and more recognize it
more and more decry it
double-talk
truth stretching
cherry picking of facts
self-centeredness
and self-promotion
lying without a blink
name calling
disrespect
laying blame
 
no world conference
has been called yet
no global alarm sounded
for the growing threat
but do not be overly alarmed
breathe in this pollution
and look at it carefully
in order to be enlightened
in the recognition
of the world’s unconscious
fear and suffering
beneath the anger and hate
 
now whatever else you do
step out and be a living sign
of compassion and peace

to side—steady
pendulum, one
with my hands;
sacred tool of ritual
cleansing;
mesmeric rhythm-
maker slicing
