lets-fly-wm

I woke up this morning and found you weren’t sleeping next to me.

I panicked.

Then I saw you make me a cup of coffee. I fell right back to sleep.

Ok, so in a back post, I promised myself to send my sick Smena 8M to the HongKong Lomo shop where it was purchased. Turns out, it’s more complicated than I thought.

First of all, shipping! It’s gonna cost me 1200Php, which I’m not willing to shell out at this time because of our upcoming vacation.

focusing the smena 8m by filmfish

I don’t really have SLR knowledge (f/8? f/11? huh?) so buying the smena was a risk – it’s fully manual!

I only know the basic things – if it’s really bright, keep the shutter speed fast, and when it’s dark keep it slow. opposite goes for the aperture – big apertures for the dark and small apertures for the sun. And when you adjust the shutter speed, you have to compensate with the aperture. Am I babbling? Just follow the picture icon guides on the camera. and advise from the manual.

But the other more adventurous thing with the smena is focusing. How the hell does that happen? There’s a “viewfinder” that has been described as nothing better than punching a hole through the camera because really – it has absolutely nothing to do with the lens.

Well, unfortunately I can’t teach you shit about how to do it. The photos below are samples of how you can go wrong. πŸ˜€ but i love every one of my photos. I don’t care if they don’t follow the rigid rules of what’s aesthetically pleasing.

Photo one contains francis – perfectly focused, but overexposed. I know, it’s a bad portrait.

Photo two contains Jan, but it seems like the guy behind him with the printed tie was better focused than he is.

Photo three contains Bryan, Thea and Jan. Obviously it’s completely off with nobody in focus at all!

Happy Smena-ing :3

For those who went ahead on their life’s adventure, we’ll follow soon! Tomorrow is another day, here in your old haunts, but it’s still cozy. Today is full of sentiment – a cousin is leaving tomorrow, and a friend is leaving on sunday. (I mustΒ  be patient.) I feel so full of good hopes and wishes, that I feel like bursting, but at the same time, I’m a little worked up thinking ‘when is it my turn?’. Do wait for us. (β™₯ jessie)
