Peter Jennings would be turning 70 today, if not for his untimely death three years ago. Of all the many Canadian journalists who went south to the U.S., he was by far the most successful. This side of the border, he worked as a reporter in Brockville, Ottawa and Toronto.
On September 11, 2001, he stayed on air for 17 hours. I actually remember channel-surfing at home late that night and being surprised to see him there still, frazzled but still holding together the various elements of ABC’s coverage together.
