“North Korea has fired what is believed to be a ballistic missile, Japan’s Coast Guard said on Wednesday – its first under the Biden administration, and a move likely to increase tensions after it fired its first cruise missiles at the weekend.
The NHK news service reported the Japanese findings on Wednesday.
U.N. Security Council resolutions ban North Korea from engaging in any ballistic activities, but not cruise missile tests. Cruise missiles fly at a lower altitude and slower speed than ballistic missiles, making them easier to intercept, but they are still considered more accurate.
It [sic] Wednesday’s missiles are confirmed to be ballistic, it will mark a significant increase in hostilities.“ . . . (more)

This nuclear weapons discussion has some information on US sabre rattling (mock nuke war attack ‘games’ over N. Korean air space covered here) with North Korea and what would happen if things escalate. More (old) stories from our blog here on the topic.

so intelligent – sending nuclear weapons armed B-2 jets to buzz N. Korea.
From Korea – KCNA – [snip] . . . . The U.S. let B-52 formation deployed in Anderson air force base on Guam fly into the sky above south Korea at around 08:00 on March 25. The formation staged a nuclear striking drill with simulated targets in the depth of the DPRK from around 11:50 and revealed it to the public.
The U.S. even let the conservative media of south Korea reveal the process of the 2010 operation against Osama bin Laden. It openly said the operational plan of “south Korea-U.S. combined forces” includes targeting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK with the use of lethal striking means and methods of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces and the south Korean puppet army.
They blustered that the operation targeting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK has no problem in terms of military technique, adding that they are closely monitoring all the relevant moves of the DPRK. They even made such bluff that now is the time to unfold “active north Korea policy”, “not passive one”. . .
Seoul (CNN) — It’s Asia’s nightmare scenario: War breaking out on the Korean peninsula.
With Korea lying at the heart of Northeast Asia, the world’s third largest zone of economic activity after Western Europe and North America, experts say global capital markets would suffer devastating collateral damage, but the catastrophic loss of human life — and potential nuclear fallout — would be far, far worse. . . The US used B-52s in formation for the first fake nuclear attack and fewer B-2s for a second attack creating a little confusion here over aircraft.

North Korea has moved what it says is a satellite-carrying rocket by train to the launch pad in Tongchang-ri, North Pyongan Province.
