SHOUTBOARD

T.H.U.G.

Founding members Chumly and Simon had long been talking about getting another band together after playing in numerous Oi! and Rock 'N' Roll bands in the early 80’s and 90’s. Finally deciding to make it happen, the task was before them to find a suitable line up. Both agreed that the band must have two guitarists and the lead slot was readily filled by an old mate of theirs from the 80’s, the Rock 'N' Roll mercenary Paul Hayward, with over three decades of gigging experience under his belt. With the bass slot filled by their good friend Steve “Kingy” King all that was needed was to get the rhythm guitar slot sorted. The word was put out and up to the plate stepped Danny Boy who had played in Bent and Sydney hardcore legends Pit Bull Attack. And so it came to pass that in February 2007 T.H.U.G started rehearsals with an aim to bring old school Rock 'N' Roll and Oi! to the pubs and clubs of Sydney Town. After a number of rehearsals, Kingy’s touring commitments with Rose Tattoo as well as the demands of his tattoo shop The House Of Pain meant that they were on the lookout for another bass player and that’s when Will came in to the picture. The boys knew after the first note was struck that Will was the man for the job and the lineup was finally settled. Throughout the remainder of 2007 and into 2008, the band commenced to build up a reputation for playing no holds barred, balls to the wall, rock n roll, and with Simon and Chumly’s Oi! background, the shows were raucous singalong affairs indeed. A support slot with Punk legends The UK Subs quickly followed by The Anti Nowhere League reinforced the bands credentials and cemented their place in the Sydney scene. In June 2008 after recording a couple of demo songs, the Band went into the studio to record their debut album. Kingy came in to produce the album and ensured that the sound was what the boys wanted. After listening to one of the songs, Gunnin’ 4 U, it was decided  that something more was needed. In Chumly’s work doing merch and security for Rose Tattoo he had mentioned to Angry that his band had a great song nearly finished which would suit him down to the ground. After a few beers and a bottle of Jack, Angry agreed to lay down a verse and the result is one kick arse song that’s for sure.
