Space safety: from principles to practice 🛰️ As activity in orbit continues to grow, ensuring the safety and sustainability of space has never been more important. In a new blog, Pablo Minguijon Pallas, Senior Manager, Flight Dynamics at Eutelsat, shares key insights from the latest Satellite Orbital Safety Best Practices 3.0 paper, published today alongside several of our industry partners as part of The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The blog explores how space safety is moving from theory to operational reality, covering the full satellite lifecycle, from design and launch through to in‑orbit operations. It highlights four key principles shaping safer operations: 🛡️ Designing for safety from the outset 👥 Coordinating early with other operators 🌐 Sharing accurate orbital data 🔃 Translating principles into day‑to‑day operational decisions As the space environment and industry continue to grow, collaboration and shared approaches are increasingly essential to ensure space remains accessible and sustainable for future generations. Satellite connectivity is an enabler of opportunity, particularly for Africa. It was therefore a privilege to join leaders from across government, industry and finance this week at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi to discuss how connectivity can help shape the continent's next phase of growth and development. Across all the regions I have worked in, I have seen the same reality: when connectivity arrives, it transforms lives. And yet, across Africa, millions of people still lack reliable access. In today’s world, connectivity must be resilient, trusted and inclusive. Africa is not standing still. The continent is advancing with extraordinary energy, ambition and innovation, and it is increasingly shaping the future of the global digital economy. Connectivity providers therefore have a responsibility to both expand access and to build long-term partnerships that support sovereign ambitions and sustainable growth. This year's historic Africa Forward event was organised under the high patronage of President Emmanuel Macron and President William Ruto. My thanks to them and all attendees for a powerful week. Africa’s digital future will be built through collaboration, investment and shared ambition. At Eutelsat, we are committed to being a long-term partner in that journey.

Eutelsat expands its connectivity commitment across Sub‑Saharan Africa 🌍 Building on our commitment to connect underserved communities, Eutelsat is extending its pledge under the International Telecommunication Union Partner2Connect Digital Coalition with a new objective to connect an additional 2 million people to broadband internet across Sub‑Saharan Africa. This follows the successful delivery of our initial pledge, reaching 1 million people two years ahead of schedule, through our satellite connectivity solutions, led by our KONNECT Wi-Fi services. The next phase, running through to 2030, will continue to leverage Eutelsat’s GEO and OneWeb LEO capabilities to deliver reliable connectivity in areas where terrestrial infrastructure remains limited; supporting access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities. Through close collaboration with regional partners, institutions and local infrastructure, we are contributing to a shared ambition: ensuring that connectivity is accessible, affordable and inclusive, and continues to play its role as a key enabler of development.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with James Pearce at TelecomTV about how we are adopting #AI at Eutelsat. In the interview, I talk about how Eutelsat has been experimenting and productizing AI in various use cases at different stages. From engineering support for satellite and ground segment optimization to process improvements and business plan support, AI is helping us achieve operational efficiency and improve services for our customers. In order to accelerate on our AI journey, we have 3 key pillars of focus:  (1) Training of our users on out-of-the-box massmarket-driven AI tools, such as CoPilot, while ensuring secure and compliant usage (2) Deployment of #GenAI and #AgenticAI for use cases that improve customer experience or bring operational process efficiencies (3) Targeted machine learning use cases that require specific customization, governed with value-based prioritization. Success with AI depends highly on clean, well‑structured data, the use of right technology and clear ownership of outcomes to ensure results can be trusted and effectively used. As we look to scale AI, collaboration across industries and ecosystems will be key.
