🌿 In Grasse, the fragrance and flavor industry explores sustainable pathways The 6th Technical Day “From Flower to Fragrance and Flavor,” organized by the Innov'Alliance - Pôle de compétitivité de la Naturalité et des filières du végétal cluster, brought together over 120 professionals at the PALAIS DES CONGRES DE GRASSE. At the heart of the discussions: the ecological transition of the sector, from plant sourcing to finished product. An ambition clearly stated by Jean-François. GONIDEC, President of Innov’Alliance: “This edition showed that innovation and environmental transition go hand in hand: more reliable data, cleaner processes, and stronger partnerships are driving a competitive industry.” Traceability and regulatory compliance took center stage. Jonathan Warr, Chairman of the IFRA-IOFI Sustainability Committee, outlined the latest methodological advances in carbon footprint assessment. Among the innovations presented, the supercritical CO₂ extraction of rose, introduced by Hajer SAOUDI, CEO of Actifs Précieux - by Apyrion, offers a promising alternative to conventional solvents. Another standout technology: the nano-emulsion system developed by Klearia. Biotechnology projects compared by Nicolas Habisreutinger from dsm-firmenich also sparked interest, as social expectations around sustainable fragrances were widely debated. The day concluded with a shared consensus: strengthening both local and international collaborations is now seen as a decisive lever to support the sector’s transformation. Cosmetics Europe partners with Close the Glass Loop https://lnkd.in/dpbSmDD9 Cosmetics Europe - The Personal Care Association Close The Glass Loop FEVE – the European Container Glass Federation Cosmetics Europe and Close the Glass Loop announced that Cosmetics Europe is becoming the 15th European partner of Close the Glass Loop, reinforcing the commitment of the whole glass packaging value chain to achieve 90 percent glass collection for recycling in the EU by 2030. While the cosmetics sector segment represents a limited share of the glass packaging placed on the market, it is nevertheless a distinctive category of products that are typically consumed in the bathroom and not – like most other products packed in glass – in the kitchen. This requires targeted measures to ensure that consumers understand that all glass packaging can be collected separately. “We are thrilled to join the Close the Glass Loop Platform,” said John Chave, Director General of Cosmetics Europe. “This partnership will further help our membership address the unique challenges of recycling cosmetic packaging and improve sorting and recycling rates. Together with our members, we look forward to sharing best practices and exchange with the Close the Glass Loop network to support the platform’s goal of achieving 90 percent glass collection for recycling in the EU by 2030.” Through this partnership, members of Cosmetics Europe will work hand in hand with the national platforms of Close the Glass Loop, who are currently operating in 13 countries across Europe, to share best practices and bring about operational and practical solutions to increase the collection and recycling of cosmetics packed in glass. They will also support the implementation of Close the Glass Loop’s Roadmap to Optimise the Closed Loop Recycling of Glass Packaging, for instance in terms of design guidelines or to maximise the uptake of recycled content. “We are excited to kickstart our collaboration with Cosmetics Europe to foster further collection and recycling of glass cosmetic packaging, and make more recycled glass available to manufacture new glass containers. Closed loop recycling can only work with a strong value chain approach,” added Carlo Pirrone, Secretary General of FEVE – the European Container Glass Federation, on behalf of Close the Glass Loop partners.
