Whirlpools and despair

We can find in the Holy Scriptures that despair is useless and never ends. Some poets and storytellers also want to make this clear.

In this world, we have so many things to take into account and we must be careful not to get caught up in a whirlwind or a whirlpool that drags everything down into the depths.

Desperation often ends in disaster, whether individually or nationally. People who are close to despair become dangerous not only to themselves but also to others. That is why it is important that those around them ensure that no one has to become desperate.

Negative thoughts often cause people to fall into a downward spiral, where they risk losing faith in the future and becoming desperate. When you feel downcast or discouraged, try to lift yourself up with positive writings from the Bible and other positive sources. Try to find a way to live and love in more peaceful ways, and find happiness and energy in those you surround yourself with.

**

Desperation seldom works…

Like chasing the wind, it is a fleeting effort at best

At worst it’s a painful and humiliating defeat

Reality bites

Leaving us lost and alone

searching for answers that elude us at every turn

Desperation is an instinctive reaction

hoping to protect ourselves from the truth

that is clearly right in front of us

Blessings for the body

What is it we are really saying when someone sneezes and we say,

“Bless you!”?

I think we’re really saying,

“I hope you have good health. I hope that sneeze is not an indication that you’re catching a cold. May whatever caused it be temporary and may you feel well and do well.”

When we get the news that someone has cancer, our hearts sink because we wish them well. We hate to think they’re going to have to face chemotherapy, radiation, loss of hair, and all the other side effects that go along with many cancer treatments.

When we hear someone has some other debilitating condition, we cringe. We know their lives are going to be affected, usually in adverse ways. We don’t like to think of ourselves or others having to face the physical limitations that go along with certain conditions.

We wish for ourselves and all our friends good health and sufficient strength to keep up a normal lifestyle. We don’t like to think of ourselves as limited by physical conditions that slow us down or cause us inconvenience.

Wild Bloom (flash fiction)

“Why do you always think the whole world is against you?” asked my mom! “You were such a sweet child growing up. Now that you’re a teenager, everything has turned upside down.”

Kate, was an only child, making good grades all the way through elementary school. As the hormones kicked in during Middle School, she became outspoken and petulant. She liked to say things that would shock her parents,

“I am just a wildflower,” Kate told her mom. “As a seed, I was shot out the back end of a blue jay when, heedless, she flew over the meadow!”

“Kate, how could you say such a repulsive thing?

Kate just giggled and ran up the stairs to her room. From the top of the landing she yelled, “One day I will be a “Wild Pansy,” blooming happily, in a field.”

A prosery prompt for d’Verse, incorporating a line from Lisa Bellamy’s poem, “Wild Pansy.” We must write a 144-word prose story including this line for the poem:

“As a seed, I was shot out the back end of a blue jay when, heedless, she flew over the meadow!”

Looking for our most ideal day

Daily writing prompt
Describe your most ideal day from beginning to end.
Photo by Letu00edcia Alvares on Pexels.com

Many people are bound by their daily work commitments to a very limited time schedule for their own free time.
Many would be too happy to have a little more time for themselves. It is no different for us, but here we are talking about a different kind of time allocation, where enough time can be available to write for our various websites.

Photo by Judit Peter on Pexels.com

There is so much to talk about. We even use different websites for this purpose, hoping that this way we can offer everyone their favourite place, where we can offer thinking material or “Thought-provoking material”. Because there is a lot to think about.

Every day, however, we are confronted with the fact that we would have preferred to do a lot more in the day.

We cannot predict how time will unfold, though how many of us would not love to be more in control of it?

Is it the same for you? Would you also prefer to be able to determine your daily schedule yourself a bit more, or manage time?

On this Christmas Day 2024

On this Christmas Day,
you may find yourself alone as a true believer.
But because you don’t want to join pagan festivals and customs,
doesn’t take away from the fact that you can still socialise
on this dark winter’s day
where lights may also bring colour to your home.

Not Just Passing

Yesterday, a star said to the little light in my heart,
We are not just transients
passing.

Do not die. Beneath this glow
some wanderers go on
walking.

You were first created out of love,
so carry nothing but love
to those who are trembling.

One day, all gardens sprouted
from our names, from what remained
of hearts yearning.

And since it came of age, this ancient language
has taught us how to heal others
with our longing,

how to be a heavenly scent
to relax their tightening lungs: a welcome sigh,
a gasp of oxygen.

Softly, we pass over wounds,
like purposeful gauze, a hint of relief,
an aspirin.

O little light in me, don’t die,
even if all the galaxies of the world
close in.

O little light in me, say:
Enter my heart in peace.
All of you, come in!

Human touch that little snippet of physical affection

In some regions one prefers to remain very physically distant. In other regions people simply stick to a handshake.
In certain communities, people want to go further and adhere to showing commitment to others by going a little further in physical contact. One dares to give something more than a pat on the back.

Kan een krabbel zijn van 1 persoon

The human touch is that little snippet of physical affection that brings a bit of comfort, support, and kindness.
It doesn’t take much from the one who gives it, but can make a huge difference in the one who receives it…

Input where you buy your coffee from, your usual order and how many you have per day to find out the calories and caffeine in your daily cup

Most of us drink coffee at least once a day. It’s even nudged tea off the top spot as Britain’s favourite beverage. While we’re united in our coffee habit, exactly how healthy it is varies depending on the type we choose, the size we order and the milk we add.

Our preferences can dramatically change the calorie and caffeine content of our coffee. Punch in where you buy your coffee from, your usual order and how many you have per day to find out exactly what’s in your mug.

Some things are too heavy to carry on your journey of life

Much too often in life, we are confronted with difficulties.
More than once, we let setbacks in life drag us into depths where we are better off not dwelling. Therefore, we are better off forgetting those setbacks as soon as possible and leaving them behind, to continue on a positive trajectory.

Every day, watch the sun caress the lake water with its rays and watch the birds engage in joyous conversation with their peers. Watch swans masterfully display their pride while frogs croak undisturbed.

How often do we forget to take time enough to take in the beauty of nature and let it enchant us further?

Thought on a young skateboarder

On Marcus Ampe’s site was an uplifting reaction by walterhamilton we would like to share here:

Thought on that young skateboarder

I have been taking an interest that will be competing in the forthcoming Paris Olympics, and I am sure from out of nowhere, will come a star, that outshines all the predicted shining stars. One that has caught my eye is Heili Sirvio, a very young and very talented skateboarder.

This will always give me hope in future generations – and when you look behind the headlines these kids had families that were prepared to put the time in to encourage and promote their talents – her father was a skateboarder, it was lockdown that started her off (boredom) but her father said that the cost of skateboard facilities in America are astronomical and then of course all the travelling to competitions all over.

The family are from Finland – moved to Austria to get away from the dreich weather and into the sunshine (her father said). Then off they went to California, (her parents had an online business so they could work from anywhere in the world) she would have been around 9 years old at the time of lockdown.

That is the kind of commitment that goes in by parents to get to this sort of level – no matter the natural talent. Of course once they reach that level government and sponsorship money pours in. How much will it be costing the British taxpayer for each medal that may or may not be won in Paris with sports laboratories, the best scientists, doctors, coaches, dieticians and equipment for the odd one to reach the desired level out of the hundreds that will pass through such sports academies.

This triggered a thought – what of the other siblings that do not have the same talent or desire – do they feel left out, deprived, or do they bask in the glory of their sibling brother or sister? I can imagine the sister of an athlete will get a jump on prospective suites, by moving in the right circles. Then again if she is wise she will not choose a professional athlete for they tend to be very single minded and selfish to a fault, at least until they pass the competitive stage. I know, I hoped to be a professional cyclist myself, but left it too late and lacked the killer instinct.

So I see hope a small flower in a desert – but flowers cast seeds so there is hope, and hope is a good thing.

Spreading light till dawn

No person can escape the bad moments in life. We all encounter such moments that we wish we would not find in our lives. When the sun rises, it let us see the gloriousness of the creation.

The greatest Sufi mystic and poet in the Persian language, famous for his lyrics and for his didactic epic Mas̄navī-yi Maʿnavī (“Spiritual Couplets”), Rūmī, takes us with him through the night.
