Technology bringing words of encouragement into the world

How has technology changed your job?

Years ago one had to write letters to reach the beloved and members of an ecclesia or mission post somewhere in the world. It took some weeks before the letter arrived where it had to be.

Teaching that way took some time, but also had our heads sometimes wondering for weeks.

At the end of last century the computer came as a marvellous tool facilitating correspondence and preaching. We are now able to write something, and as soon it is published, people from all over the world can read it.

It is like magic, how words suddenly reach people and have them react straight ahead. It is like we can talk with each-other as if sitting in the same room. There is Messenger, WhatsApp, Zoom, Handsout, and so many other electronic apps that give us the possibilities to communicate with each other easily.

It is a blessing, making life also so more connected and fruitful.

Making our stories and our lives by living them

We all make our stories and our lives
by living them,
by what and by whom we agree
or refuse to trust,
to hope for,
and to work for.

When we don’t know how the next chapter will end

Day after day, we are confronted with all kinds of issues that can keep us busy at that moment, but also for longer than a day.

How we view all these issues will occupy and make us our day but also our many years of life…. We need to realise that we have a choice in how much we are influenced by the people and events around us.

Whether we should believe in miracles is another matter, but they can exist and they can happen to us. We must dare to believe in them and dare to move mountains.

“Life may cut you down, yet your roots are strong beneath.
You will rise once more.”

~ Alec Depledge ❤

Whatever happens to us, we have to keep holding onto hope.

De geest wordt niet zwak, maar het instrument verslijt – The mind does not become weak, but the instrument wears out

**

Bad enough, we cannot stop certain processes in human life.

It is very beautiful when we see the newborn making its first sounds and movements. The first steps may move us. We can be proud of those first achievements of that oh so young human being.

Man grows up and becomes wiser, more and more skilled at expressing himself and getting out of the way.

The world begins to slow down as winter approaches and we have this opportunity to be thankful.

We have the time to honour the sacredness of life, time to be happy with our past and hopeful for our future, time to be joyous with the people in our life, and time to be honest and truthful in all things ❤

Rudolf Steiner said:

As people grow older, they do not become weak or even feeble-minded, but they become more spiritual (German: geistig-seelischer). Only then the body is worn out and one cannot bring the spiritual-psychic, which one has formed, to revelation through the body.
This is similar to a pianist, who could become an ever better player; however, if the piano is worn out, one cannot notice anything. If you want to know his abilities as a pianist only from his piano playing, however, the piano is out of tune and has broken strings, you will not be able to tell much from his playing.

Thus, Kant, when he was an old man and feeble-minded, became, for the spiritual world, not feeble-minded but great (German: glorios) {Rudolf Steiner – GA 181 – Erdensterben und Weltenleben – Berlijn, 2 april 1918 (bladzijde 185)}

Als de mensen ouder worden, worden ze niet zwak of zelfs zwakzinnig, maar ze worden geestelijker (Duits: geistig-seelischer). Alleen is dan het …

De geest wordt niet zwak, maar het instrument verslijt

Conversation starters or Talking points from this week’s news

Dear readers,

We would like to remind you that we provide a News site, where you are presented with a free view on important news facts and religious topics.

Apart from the general news of the day, we bring political and social news there, but are also not shy about how wretchedly bad things are with our natural environment and what we can do about it. But on the religious front (be it Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or other), things are not going so well in this world and it is also necessary to turn an open eye to that now and then.

Our own existence is very important and, in doing so, we have to take into account not only our environment but also our own body, its needs and how to nourish it physically and mentally. This is what we try to pay attention to regularly in “Some View on the World“, as we also try to do here.

We are convinced that “Some Look at the World” can offer you and people around you some food for thought and topics for discussion on a daily basis.

For example, we propose topics such as these:sujets de discussion

Make meals and car rides more engaging when you toss out one of these questions to family members.

1. The American Ornithological Society (AOS) has announced that it will rename all birds that are named after people. The change is being made to ensure that names of people who engaged in discrimination are not attached to the birds. Ultimately, the AOS plans to change the names of 263 birds. What do you think about this decision and why?

2. Your family may have special traditions, especially now as the holidays approach. Whether it’s making cookies, walking around the neighbourhood to enjoy colourful lights, or watching a favourite holiday movie, these traditions can help you feel closer to the people you love. What are some of your favourite family traditions, and what new ones would you like to create?

3. Earlier this year, the US Senate relaxed its dress code—then reversed the decision days later. That got a lot of people talking. Some say it’s fine to dress down, even at work or in other formal situations, while others say that’s not a good look. What do you think? Has casual dressing gone too far?

Or find messages to think and talk about, like:

  1. Messages leading to an earthly utopia
  2. Leaving their land the death of their cause
  3. Want to make a difference on air pollution? Cut down on your meat and dairy
  4. Melting ice, species going extinct, cow dung zero waste and
  5. A lightning bolt through your brain
  6. Smog in New Delhi, elimination of hepatitis C, global tuberculosis rates & Gaza’s hospitals
  7. Anglo-Saxon era church bringing the church into disrepute
  8. Reasons why Christianity is declining rapidly in America
  9. The countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian
  10. How Evangelicals betray Christians in the Holy Land

Don’t forget our overview of daily facts

Not closing ourselves off to what is going on in the world

For those who would not yet know or have forgotten, we would like to remind you that we provide a daily summary of daily facts on our news site: Some View on the World.

A lot of people are preoccupied daily with their obligations to provide sufficient income. As a result, they may not even get sufficiently informed about what is happening on a global scale during the day. When they return home in the evening, they are often too tired to watch news broadcasts and insight programmes or current affairs (news format).

Did you know that Marcus Ampe has created a site, especially for this purpose, which gives a regular overview of what is happening in the world and how we can view it? His intention was to allow several voices to speak, even if they might even contradict themselves in certain circumstances. But according to Marcus Ampe, it should be possible to juxtapose different opinions and give the reader a chance to choose which side of the story he prefers and which he also wants to delve further into.

Being able to follow the important news of the day on a daily basis is not obvious, completely free Some View on the World provides that option.

We would like to invite you to take a look. We would appreciate it even more if you would also register to be kept informed of new publications.

When reading the Bible

Bible reading, Bijbel lezen

Foto door Rodolfo Quiru00f3s op Pexels.com

We should regularly read the Bible, the infallible Word of God. In that collection of different books we might find all sorts of reliable stories, poetry, proverbs, and wisdom that can feed our spirit to grow in knowledge and to a better personality.

When reading the Bible you should ask yourself some questions:

  • Principle 1: Read for the author’s meaning, not your own.
    When we read, we want to know what an author intended us to see and experience in his writing. He had an intention when he wrote. Nothing will ever change that. It is there as a past, objective event in history.
    We are not reading simply for subjective experiences. We are reading to discover more about objective reality.
    I’m not content with what comes to my mind when I read it. The meaning of a sentence, or a word, or a letter is what the author intended for us to understand by it. Therefore, meaning is the first aim of all good reading.
  • Principle 2: Ask questions to unlock the riches of the Bible.
    When we read, we generally do not really think until we are faced with a problem to be solved, a mystery to be unravelled, or a puzzle to be deciphered. Until our minds are challenged, and shift from passive reading to active reading, we drift right over lots of insights.
    Asking ourselves questions is a way of creating a problem or a mystery to be solved. That means the habit of asking ourselves questions awakens and sustains our thinking. It stimulates our mind while we read, and drives us down deep to the real meaning of a passage.
  • Principle 3: At every page, pray and ask for God’s help.
    Reflect on how Christians today should live in light of this passage, and consider what impact it should have on your life.

Taking a dog by the ears

When we browse the internet to find interesting articles, we come across a lot of junk that we ignore further. But there are also sites that touch us because of the attitude they dare to adopt towards other people.

A multitude of articles are placed on the net against believers, be they Christians, Jews or Islamists. Certain people are not afraid to adopt an ugly and sometimes degenerate attitude towards believers.
People seem to be ugly, especially against Christians. Bad enough, those who speak very negatively and even go too aggressive towards other Christians can also find people who call themselves Christians.

Of course, the ex-Christians are the most Christian-hating group, which are underpinned and encouraged by atheists, who don’t like anything else to ridicule Christians. It doesn’t bother them, even if they have a business to do such a thing. Strangely enough, they often do like to get as much money out of people with religious traditions to sell their products based on such occasions. Take the South African Ark, for example, which takes every opportunity to ridicule Christians, while she does not even seem to bother, to get to know those people’s thinking on a religious level, plus also on a political or civil level and would like to have her readers to follow her business site.  When you take only that one site with articles like:

  1. ”It’s all a matter of evidence, M’lud.”
  2. The hypocrisy of cancel culture
  3. A-theism is …?
  4. The love of Christianity ….
  5. Christianity: When Intelligence is optional but Stupid is obligatory.
  6. Seth Andrews: Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot
  7. Evangelical Christianity – trigger warning!

you can get a fairly good picture of such a shameful attitude to other thinkers and human beings. What is also striking about negative judges of Christianity is that they mainly look at American evangelical Christians and do not look further at what other Christians believe or how they practice their life of faith.

Ark herself points her finger rightly to the biggest cause of problems. She writes:

…if, as kids, we were each given a KJV bible as part of our school curriculum and told to read it …. ”there will be a test!” {I wonder ….}

The biggest problem of those that criticise Christianity and/or Christendom (them not even seeing the difference between it) is that they never have taken enough time to read the most important Book of books which should be the basis of such faith and for society. In case several believers actually take up the Bible and read the entire book, many more people would leave a certain group of faith because they will have insight into the many false doctrines in that faith community.

Another question some could have asked.

would any of us have believed what we read or become Christians simply on the strength of being told we were reading the ‘Divine Word?’ {I wonder ….}

But we also notice that a lot of atheists and critics of certain faith groups even do not bother to look carefully what those groups believe. Some who call themselves Christian even attack other Christians and tell all sorts of lies about them. One such blog has even as title “The Bible & Exposing Cult Error Darkness Into Light” were the writer wants his readers to believe he exposes errors of others, but in fact does nothing more than presenting his own errors, ignorance or lack of knowledge. For certain groups, like Christadelphians calls them a cult, without really having studied their teachings. Others prefer to stay anonymous. We also can find so-called Christians who hate Jews and preach anti-semitism.

Several of those so-called Christian sites even do not let readers reply on their articles or in case they do they delete all reasonable answers shedding a true light on the Bible or do not allow reply which are not according their idea or oppose the sayings in the article.

From some articles we can find on the net we would think the blogger conciders the other the enemy, though he does not dare to talk nicely to that enemy, what he better would. Desmond Tutu once said;

“If you want peace, you don’t talk to your friends, You talk to your enemies.”

Also the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi could not understand why there was so much hatred by Christians against other Christians whilst in case they would follow the example of the master teacher they say they follow, there would be much more peace in the world.

We may not forget that most wars originated from greed, often people using religion or a gruesome event that happened before as an excuse.

There is quite honestly probably no country or emirate or society that has not, at one time or other in their history (including any country that has made a concerted effort to wipe out indigenous peoples) done the very same thing, mostly for greed or revenge or because their god commanded them to do it. {Judy Thompson‘s reply to Islam: Can you feel the love?}

The blogger Nora Marie has been been on both sides…both sides of the grass… and has experienced rejection from God’s people as well as the people closest to her. She looks at the problem of false accusations or people not looking at the matter closely.

She writes:

Now, why would he believe anything the person said as gospel when he himself caught the person on a false accusation? Because we humans tend to be drawn to and believe the negative, especially with people we don’t like or are in competition with. Betrayal and getting stabbed in the back hurts when the falsehood comes from an acquantience, crushes when it comes from a friend, and destroys when it’s a relative. Gossip destroys. {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

Several name Christians do forget that a Christian should be a real or true follower of Christ, having the same God as Christ, and trying to become like Christ.

Instead of loving other Christians, some make it a sport to blacken others and even incite people to hate those other Christians.

Nora Marie writes:

Why do we (yes, especially so-called Christians) stick our noses in other people’s poop?

Why do Christians feel the need to spread stuff around that they know will hurt others? {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

and gives a good answer:

Two reasons:

1. Pride and arrogance in thinking they are more righteous than others, and

2. Revenge, thinking they will straighten out the person, not realizing that God will always put the gossiper in their place! {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

It is often because they cannot tolerate something from the other party that they go against it so much. Most vehemently they go against non-trinitarian Christians and their churches because they cannot stand up to the dignity of those God-loving persons who base themselves totally on the Bible and not on the doctrines of certain popular churches.

Much too often, certain Christians forget the words of the Bible concerning their attitude against others and worse in their way of living go far away from the essence of Scriptures.

We are fools when we fly far from God’s precepts, when we are lazy, and when we use our tongues to hurt others in order to build ourselves up. {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

correctly reminds her readers.

God has given His Word to anyone who wants to hear, to provide instruction and insight so that one can build a perfect life full of respect for others.

God’s word is genius. God’s word flows together into every area of our lives. Yes, it is possible to live right with only the Ten Commandments, but thankfully, God gave us a whole Cannon to explain to us dumb sheep how to treat others, and more importantly, to draw closer to the Lord! {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

Naive or inexperienced and gullible persons are easily misled and believe every word they hear, but the prudent man [is discreet and astute and] considers well where they are going, sifting and weighing every word. Therefore, let’s think carefully about some bible texts like these:

He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own
Is like one who takes a dog by the ears. ~Proverbs 26:17

“The simpleton believes every word he hears, but the prudent man looks and considers well where he is going.” Proverbs 14:15

Remembering also

“You are not mature if you have a high esteem of yourself. He who boasts in himself is but a babe in Christ, if indeed he be in Christ at all.
Young Christians may think much of themselves. Growing Christians think themselves nothing. Mature Christians know that they are less than nothing.
The more holy we are, the more we mourn our infirmities, and the humbler is our estimate of ourselves”
{ Charles Spurgeon}

And

Let’s live in love instead of arrogance. {Grab a Dog by the Ears?}

To maintain a healthy relationship with technology

Today, lots of youngsters are glued with their faces onto the little screen of their smartphones.

Daily writing prompt
Do you remember life before the internet?

Since the introduction of the personal computer ways are opened to all sorts of knowledge. One could say that is a very good thing. And it would be if people would properly make use of it. But instead of going to dig in all the available material, a majority used the internet to share ridiculous messages and little film with absurd content.

Instead of making full use of the numerous advantages of Internet, the majority of people, mostly youngsters, decided to give it another role than the education role. Now many uses it for entertainment and just good fun. For them, it is not important to find a healthy balance between the virtual and real worlds.

… the internet has facilitated the sharing and dissemination of information on an unprecedented scale, providing access to a vast array of resources that have contributed significantly to education, commerce, and entertainment. The internet has transformed how we learn, collaborate, and develop, making it an indispensable tool for personal growth and development. {The Internet Age: Reflecting on Life Before and Its Impact on Society}

Looking around us, on the street, we see several internet addicts hanging on their phones. It is clear to see that they cannot live without that little connection device where they subscribe to multiple social media.

Some decades ago you could find children playing outdoors, but now they are gone out the parks, or in case you find them there, they are sitting on the grass, they pluck at that little screen all the time without paying attention to what is happening outside them. Nobody climbs trees anymore.

Previously people left their houses to socialise, but now they make contact with the PC, iPad, tablet or smartphone and have forgotten the quality time of real-life gatherings. Meeting new people or making advantages was an adventure. Paper for letters or cards where the connection tools.

Tinder in real life was a piece of paper

When there was someone you were interested in, in order to ask them out, you needed to either pluck up the courage to ask them out in person, or else pass them a piece of paper with three boxes: check yes, no, or maybe. {How was life before internet}

But the internet not only facilitated searching and making contacts, it also became a sort of weapon for many.

Internet is both a boon and bane depending on its usage. It is similar to a weapon which if used properly could save lives but if dealt with carelessness then could lead to destruction of masses.

Geniuswords {Internet: A weapon of modern world}

In today’s warfare, we also see how internet technology has found its way to do great damage and a lot of killing without using many people, with unmanned flying bombs (with drones).

The internet seems to have become a tinderbox where the biggest lies take the crown and where a lot of people seek pleasure in slandering others or in all kinds of cartoons or lewd videos.

The internet may be cracking our world wide open, but in its relatively nascent state, most people haven’t yet found their ways to effectively police what goes on in the cyber community. New ways to distract and distort teenage minds are invented online every day.

Many get carried away by influencers or popular figures, without seriously considering for themselves what these guys actually preach.

People’s thinking these days stays on the surface of things, more than it did a few centuries ago. The present young generation does not bother much about far away places and does not bother to penetrate very deeply into things.  They do not see how thinner the concepts are – and on the surface of things all concepts are thin and abstract – the better these concepts seem to provide arguments for what people want to believe and accept from completely different substrates, from very unconscious substrates, from feelings, from wills and the like.

Instead of making it an indispensable tool for personal growth and development, many use the internet more for their pleasure and entertainment.

Not many do take steps to maintain a healthy relationship with technology and prevent it from dominating their lives. For most of the younger population, everything turns around their little internet tool. Lots of people have still to become aware that by consciously incorporating offline experiences, nurturing real-life relationships, and embracing digital literacy, they can ensure that the internet remains a tool for empowerment rather than a detriment to our social fabric.

As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the internet, it is essential to reflect on the lessons learned from life before its omnipresence. Encouraging young individuals to engage in offline activities, emphasising the importance of genuine human connections, and teaching digital literacy and responsible internet usage can shape a better future. By harnessing the benefits of the internet while preserving the essence of authentic human experiences, we can foster a socially connected society, emotionally intelligent and capable of responsibly navigating the digital realm. {The Internet Age: Reflecting on Life Before and Its Impact on Society}

Let us not forget:

Through a harmonious integration of the virtual and the physical, we can build a better future that combines the benefits of technology with the inherent value of genuine human interactions. {The Internet Age: Reflecting on Life Before and Its Impact on Society}

The next thing.

Lots of people wonder what the future might bring. They want to forget the past, not willing to learn from it. Often blind for what is really going on, they want to predict the future., and have everything under control.
Suddenly they are confronted with “the next” bit. Rolling into that, what they loved to have seen earlier, but could not see because so busy searching.

Let us be aware of past and present and learn from those moments that come in front of us.
Let us embrace the future and be wise enough to deal with it correctly.

4 Reasons to Pursue Humility

People like people to obey human teachings, this over spiritual teachings or those presented in the Bible. For that, people find it much more important to stick to what their church community teaches them. As a result, they do not have to take responsibility for choosing a particular doctrine themselves.

Many people forget that it takes a form of humility to accept Biblical Truth for what it is and to start living according to Biblical teachings instead of going along with the majority of people who have joined some majority church.

As believers in God, we should rather seek what we really want. Do we want to follow Christ or rather follow a church?

We should dare not to go for the easy answers, whereby church fathers say we do not have to think about it much, because we would not understand. For centuries many churches have presented their answers to take, without wanting to let you wonder and question them. Coming closer to important times it shall become even more important to question everything, and certainly the church and faith.

Coming to faith requires humility to admit scriptural knowledge and daring to set aside dogmas proposed by men.

Marcus Ampe

Our culture constantly tells us to build our self-esteem and think highly of ourselves.

Yet the Bible urges us to do the opposite. To pursue humility. It’s actually a glorious pursuit. And we have plenty of reasons to be humble. Here are a few:

We can’t control anything. We like to think we are in control. We make plans, write out our lists, book our flights, mark our calendars. Yet we can’t control a single thing.

Come now, you who say,

“Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”

— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say,

“If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13–15

We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. We don’t know what the next hour will bring. Or the next 5 minutes for that matter. One little artery in our brain could burst. We could get a phone call with news that will alter our lives permanently. I don’t live in fear of the unknown, but it is humbling to contemplate our lack of control over our lives.

We are only here for a tiny blip of time.

“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

This is humbling. We are nothing great. In the blink of an eye we’ll be gone. We can’t keep our own hearts beating or maintain our breathing. We can’t keep ourselves alive. We can exercise and eat well, and that has some value, but it won’t add a single hour to our lives. God has determined the number of our days.

We are limited in our self-knowledge.

“Know thyself”

said a philosopher. We can know a lot about ourselves, yet there is much we don’t. We can’t fully know our own hearts and motives. We can’t fully know our own weaknesses and sins or see them as others can. Proverbs 12:15 says,

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”

So often my first reaction to correction is to think the other person is wrong and that I’m right — right in my own eyes. That’s why we need brothers and sisters to help us, as it says in Psalm 141:5:

“Let a righteous man strike me — it is a kindness; let him rebuke me — it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it.”

It is a kindness when a brother or sister points out a sin or weakness. In our pride we are tempted to “refuse it.” But a humble person receives correction because he knows he is limited in self-knowledge.

Pride has terrible consequences; humility brings blessing. Proverbs 18:12 says,

“Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.”

I’d rather have honor than destruction. So I must guard against pride, which is always lurking in my heart.

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (JA 4:6).

I don’t enjoy it when people oppose me, but definitely don’t want God opposing me. Really good reason to be humble.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” (PR 11:2).

Destruction, the opposition of God, disgrace — pride has serious consequences.

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (LK 14:11).

Humility will keep us from sin. A humble person knows he has fallen in the past in many ways and is capable of any sin. A humble person knows that if God doesn’t deliver him from temptation and evil, he is helpless to stand against it. A humble person doesn’t think that he is strong enough to expose himself to sin and not be affected, so he flees temptation. A humble person knows that God is working in him, yet he isn’t perfected yet.

These are but a few of many reasons to pursue humility. May we all seek to be lowly in spirit, like the most humble man who ever walked the earth, our Savior.

Identifying discourses

” identifying discourses is one of the most effective strategies to “unlocking” the sociological lens.”
+
discourses allows us to step outside of what we consider as our reality
and question whether that reality might be inaccurate or just different from others’ reality.
