Cultivation of godly affections that correspond to the truth

Cultivate godly affections that correspond to the truth. The catechism mentions three in particular. We are to receive the word “with faith, love, meekness.” If listening to preaching is a vital part of our worship, then our attitude toward the message really matters.
We’re not to be critical judges, assessing the message and comparing its delivery to that of our favorite celebrity preachers. We are not to be self-appointed doctrinal police, constantly scanning for error so that we can pounce with glee on the poor pastor’s mistakes. Let’s avoid imitating the scribes and the Pharisees who constantly tested Jesus, “lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say” (Luke 11:54). We are to hear the Word with godward affections.

The catechism mentions faith first. Hebrews 4:2 reminds us that the generation of Israelites who perished in the wilderness failed to enter the land of Canaan because

“the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.”

Faith is necessary if we are to benefit from the Word. Ask God to help you to truly believe what he has said and to trust in it today and tomorrow and in the years ahead.

Next, the catechism mentions love. Jesus said,

“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word” (John 14:23).

Love obeys the Word of God. It takes what faith believes and puts it to work. It keeps Christ’s commandments (see John 14:15). It’s not good enough merely to know the Word. We must learn to love it and to say with the psalmist,

“I find my delight in your commandments, which I love” (Ps. 119:47).

Finally, the catechism mentions meekness. James 1:21 reminds us that we are to

“put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Meekly receiving the Word, James is telling us, is basic to dealing with the deep festering sins of our hearts. Meekness means refusing to presume that we know better than God. It is the one essential ingredient in a teachable spirit.

Putting into practice the four immensurable attitudes

“Take all beings as your object of meditation, and apply yourself to implementing the four immensurable attitudes: love, or the desire for all beings to be happy; compassion, or the desire for them to be free from suffering; joy at the happiness of others; and impartiality, which consists in treating all beings equally, without attachment or rejection. ”

Thai monks on pilgrimage to the ruins of Nalanda which was one of the first universities in the world and the largest Buddhist university in history, established in the first century AD during the Gupta dynasty. The complex was built in red brick and its ruins cover 14 hectares. It is said that the Buddha stayed several times in Nalanda. Later, Emperor Ashoka (250 BC) built a stoûpa there in memory of Shariputra, one of the two closest disciples of the Buddha.

Again, a week is behind us. In case certain things went wrong, let us put them right. And today, on Monday, let us start anew, fresh. Let us find ways today to foster inner peace so we can reflect that peace in our actions. Let us be a seed of sunflowers of love and peace.

War and peace, are still a problem in our world

Even though we have been spared from wars in our own areas for several years already now, we still see many war zones around us.

To love somebody is not just a strong feeling

Each individual must make the personal choice of whether or not to love someone. Christians first and foremost should carry and display love for others in their hearts.

May hope bloom in your heart in the way it can inspire and energise others

Even in bad times we still have to look for a better future, hoping for better times for ourselves and for those far away. May hope inspire you to reach out to others and to share your hope and love.
May hope give you the necessary energy to shine so that it also can bring energy to others around you and peace to their mind, love to their heart, and calmness to their spirit.

Make it a habit to tell people thank you…

In the previous posting I mentioned to focus on the good things in life and leaving those who can not stand you aside. Be stronger then their degrading attitude and show the people around you love and kindness.

Let others know how you appreciate their presence, but also what they do. Be kind to those who you encounter and do not hesitate to show your thankfulness.

Make of every bit of your life a good bit and a treasure to carry you further in life.

Grabbing love

True love grabs on to what is loved and does not let go for anything, just as death grabs a hold of a person and never lets go in this world. Love knows no bounds in which it will go to show that love.

Daily Prompt- What Are You Passionate About?

In our Western industrialised world, we can live in prosperity, but we also have a duty or obligation to share our prosperity with others. There is a great need for help all over the world. However small the contribution to help may be it will be a welcome one.

Loving One Another

Brian W Johnson's avatarBrian W. Johnson

Even though love for a particular person, or people, is sometimes easier than for others, followers of Christ are not called to ‘let love be genuine’ only to those for whom it is easy to love. Venturing outside biblically defined bounds of genuine love turns it into a squishy and nebulous force ushering from the seat of emotion.

Ill defined and emotionally driven love becomes fickle and empty. Not only is it a ill defined phenomena, it almost always becomes an ideal of romantic love. The notion of true love then becomes a one in a million incident only found by the fortunate.

Love is so much more than romance. We are to let love be genuine and extend beyond the base level hormone response.

Followers of Christ are called to love their brothers in Christ, with great frequency. Loving brothers and sisters in Christ will not always come…
