Blessings for the body

What is it we are really saying when someone sneezes and we say,

“Bless you!”?

I think we’re really saying,

“I hope you have good health. I hope that sneeze is not an indication that you’re catching a cold. May whatever caused it be temporary and may you feel well and do well.”

When we get the news that someone has cancer, our hearts sink because we wish them well. We hate to think they’re going to have to face chemotherapy, radiation, loss of hair, and all the other side effects that go along with many cancer treatments.

When we hear someone has some other debilitating condition, we cringe. We know their lives are going to be affected, usually in adverse ways. We don’t like to think of ourselves or others having to face the physical limitations that go along with certain conditions.

We wish for ourselves and all our friends good health and sufficient strength to keep up a normal lifestyle. We don’t like to think of ourselves as limited by physical conditions that slow us down or cause us inconvenience.
