Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have long been portrayed as the worst offenders of antibiotic overuse, with over-the-counter sales and weak regulation seen as one of the main reasons behind the rise and spread of drug-resistant infections. But a new study now challenges this narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blue-sea-697d.quartiers047.workers.dev:443\/https\/protect.checkpoint.com\/v2\/r01\/___https:\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanpub\/article\/PIIS2468-2667(26)00103-9\/fulltext___.YzJ1OmJvc3Rvbmdsb2JlMTpjOmc6YzA0MzNhM2Q0MDEzMmFhMGM3NmI5ZWNhZDcwZGQ0Njg6NzplMDQ1OjI2YzRlNjkzN2FkZTQ2YTIzZDhhNGZmODYyNWQ5OGVkODczNmMxMjE0ODM3M2I4MmExNWExY2I4ZDZjYzMxZDY6aDpUOkY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;the Lancet Public Health&nbsp;found that overuse is actually concentrated in high-income settings, with these countries consuming the largest volumes of antibiotics used to treat drug-resistant infections.
