Heart of Leaves

I am often taken aback at how many heart shapes one can find in nature.  They are seen in flowers, clouds, rocks, trees--just about everywhere.

I was in Spokane, Washington, with a friend of mine when I spotted the leafy heart in this picture.  Can you see it?

I have not posted to this blog for about a year.  My camera broke and I really don't like my new one.  Also, it has been a year of dealing with the loss of my Beloved husband.  Suddenly my mind comprehends he will not be back.  I have stopped listening for his step, or expecting him to burst in the back door full of humor and stories.  I miss him dreadfully--but the darkness of loss is beginning to lift.

That's not to say it won't be back.  Grief is like the ocean.  It is always there--and sometimes there are dreadful storms.

God bless you, dear ones.  Look for those hearts--they're everywhere.

Moth Wing Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

 

I was on the phone, talking to Clytie, when I spotted a moth on the side of our house.  I took a closer look and eureka!   The moth's wings were covered with hearts!

Here's a closeup of the hearts on its wings.

Still on the phone with Sissie, the moth seemed to be saying, "enough already, I'm trying to rest!"

I have never seen a moth like this one. Is it possible that because I was talking to the Queen of Hearts, the hearts appeared?  One never knows!  Have a lovely day fellow heart lovers!

Here is another heart from the sea, found whilst walking along the pounding surf.  What fun!  A jellyfish heart.  Thrown purposefully at our feet on our anniversary, I'm sure!

Muscle Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I found so many hearts at the seashore when my husband and I stayed in Oregon's magnificent Pacific City.  This is a muscle shell.  The inside of this shell is beautiful--looks like blue and purple rainbow mother-of-pearl.

I am continually amazed at how many hearts can be found in nature.  This is a heart I captured in the sky over our home a week ago.  Amazing!  Perhaps this is not a truly geometric form--but a cloud heart is still one of those wonderful finds with meaning.

Rock 'n Ocean -Guest Heart Thursday

Sweet sissy Clytie loves the ocean--so this one is for you, Honey!  Can you see the rock heart behind the surf's spray?  It took me a minute--but it is there.

Stumped -Guest Heart Thursday

We were driving home from a long weekend away, when my husband wanted to take a detour.  We did--and he spent about 45 minutes walking the railroad tracks.  Three long trains were waiting on the side for another to come through in the opposite direction.  Poor fellow, we had to leave before the awaited train arrived.

I was so tired I decided to stay in the Van and it had started to rain.  I wasn't surprised, though--to look out the window and see this cropped heart.  Just in time for Guest Heart Thursday!

I'm "Lichen" a Perfect Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

What an amazing set of fungi.  When I was a kid, we called them conches.  Our cousins called them conks.  There are many kinds of these terraced, ruffed fungi.  This type, to me, seem to be a bevy of faery condos.  I was amazed to find a perfect heart in the midst of all these flounced fungi.

It has been snowing all day long.  Not even an inch has gathered upon the ground.  However, these tiny birds were cavorting in the cedar trees, gathering food from clusters of cedar berries.  Do you see the heart?  lol  Isn't this just the cutest little heart you've seen in a coon's age?

There are several hearts to be found in this frozen clump of rose hips.  Though we are now living in the 5 percent of America without freezing temperatures, we did have a little freeze a few weeks ago.  It even snowed a smidge.

Squirrel in Oaken Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Mumsie and I traveled through Oregon's Great Columbia Gorge last summer.  On our way we stopped at various parks and places to enjoy a hike, or two...or three.  We ate lunch sitting at a picnic table in the springtime sunshine and had an utterly lovely day.

How fun to note this little fellow perched inside a great oaken heart.  Can you see him?

If I didn't know better, I'd say he's a poser!!!  What a darling little fellow.

Nosey Toez Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I don't know if you can see it, but Toez the Polydactyl Cat has a little white heart on the end of her nose.  I took this picture of her last night, as she lay sleeping.  But not for long--she has GREAT hearing!  lol

Heart Shroom on Log -Guest Heart Thursday

Last weekend we were performing in Oregon's mighty Columbia Gorge.  My young friend and I were leaping across rocks and climbing old logs.  I would have completely missed this plump heart shroom if it were not the sharp eyes of my youthful companion.  There's nothing sharper than the eyes of a boy who loves nature.  I felt honored that this young man would take time to hang out with an old lady like me.

In our spare time between conference meetings, we knocked down a small dead fir tree and cut it up for firewood.  Beneath the canopy of fir, I found this amazing mushroom--it was bigger than the palm of my hand!  And yes, there's a heart to be found.
