omega v0.7.0

What's Changed

  • feat(agent): concurrent sessions with per-run model state (957c85c) - /chat streams now run in parallel. Each request gets its own provider copy via WithModel (no more global SetModel mutation), the single-flight guard - which hung a second concurrent chat forever - is gone, the detached title call pins the session's model, and /models no longer mutates shared state. Two sessions streaming different models at the same time is now the normal case.
  • fix(tui): model info queries the selected model (621aebd) - the status bar context window now reflects the selected model instead of the base default; AGENTS.md doc spots swept alongside the renames.

What Changed

Dead code removed

cmdTest was an 80-line smoke test baked into the production binary as omega test. SetProvider and SetToolProvider had no production callers. NewStore was a one-line wrapper around Open. All deleted.

Duplicates consolidated

messageRole, messageContent, newSessionID, commaInt, countTokens, and sessionDisplayName each had two or three copies across packages. Consolidated into shared helpers: ai.MessageRole, agent.MessageText, agent.NewSessionID, agent.FormatNumber, agent.EstimateTokens, store.SessionDisplayName. One implementation each.

fsnotify dependency dropped

WatchConfig used the fsnotify file watcher library for config hot-reload. Replaced with a 5-second polling ticker checking os.Stat modification times. Same behavior, one fewer dependency.

Prompt extension no longer re-scans skills

The prompt builder had its own skill scanner (loadSkills + parseFrontmatter) duplicating the skills extension's scanner. It now calls ctx.Skills.LoadSkills() instead. One skill scanner in the binary, not two.

Test coverage improvements

Improver cycles added tests for: verifyChecksum, cmdInsights, buildConfigs, buildPlugins, signalContext, image detection, tool command helpers, and store command handlers. Coverage up across cmd/omega (47% → 53%), ai (80% → 93%), extensions/tools (71% → 89%), extensions/store (44% → 84%).

What Changed

gateway/ is gone

The gateway package used to own the HTTP server, session store, and config. It owns nothing now. The store and HTTP server moved to their extensions (extensions/store/, extensions/http_channel/). Config loading moved to cmd/omega/ where the host lives. The package was deleted entirely.

Every extension imported gateway just to type-assert ctx.Config and read its section. Each extension defines its own Config struct with a Default() instead. The host routes YAML sections into a Configs map keyed by plugin name. Extensions read their own config with ctx.Configs["store"].(store.Config) — no foreign imports, no type assertions on someone else's struct.

Trust is now an extension

Trust was the last capability hardcoded in the host. Every other capability (provider, store, compaction, skills, logging, memory, prompt, frontend, tools, channel) was already behind a seam. Trust was the outlier.

It lives in extensions/trust/ and implements the TrustProvider seam. The host passes omega home via config; the extension reads trust.yaml, resolves project context, and reports trust state. CLI flag parsing (--approve/--no-approve) stays in the host.

15 extensions, 11 exclusive seams, 2 additive. Nothing is hardcoded in the host anymore.

Self-update verifies checksums

omega update downloads a binary from GitHub and installs it. The update process verifies the SHA256 checksum before extracting. Releases ship a checksums.txt file alongside the platform archives. If the checksum doesn't match, the update aborts. Older releases without checksums get a warning and proceed without verification.

Config validation is deeper

Validate() used to check two things: model name exists, port is positive. It also checks provider type (ollama/openai/anthropic), host URL format, memory char limits when memory is enabled, and rejects negative max_turns or http_timeout.

Smaller fixes

  • Retry backoff caps at 30s instead of growing without bound
  • Export and insights commands use 30s timeouts on store queries instead of hanging forever
  • omega health respects OMEGA_HEALTH_HOST env var for remote health checks
  • Home directory creation failures surface as errors instead of silent skips
  • Config reload failures log to stderr instead of disappearing silently
  • omega insights resolves home paths before opening the store (was opening the wrong database when run outside omega home)

Code cleanup

  • formatInsights and formatNumber deduplicated — one copy in the agent package, shared by CLI and TUI
  • provider.go split into ollama.go, openai.go, anthropic.go (was 902 lines, now four focused files)
  • Checksum logic extracted to checksum.go
  • 4 improver commits: store command tests, health/checksum test coverage, cmdExport tests, cwd/omegaHome tests

v0.4.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 23:02

What Changed

TUI is now an extension

The terminal UI used to be 2,400 lines baked into the binary entry point. No interface, no way to swap it out. Want a web UI instead? Fork the binary.

Now there is a Frontend seam in the agent package. The TUI lives in extensions/tui/ and implements it through a 37-line plugin adapter. The entry point mounts plugins and calls Run(). It does not know what a textarea is.

A future extensions/webui/ can implement the same seam. No binary changes needed.

Slash commands live with their owners

12 slash commands moved from the TUI to their owning extensions. Remove an extension, its commands go with it. No orphaned /tools with no tools behind it.

Command Now lives in
/sessions, /tree, /search, /insights extensions/store/
/new, /resume, /branch, /label, /export extensions/store/
/models, /thinking extensions/provider/
/tools extensions/tools/

The TUI keeps 5 built-in commands: /copy, /extensions, /theme, /exit, /help. Everything else dispatches through the extension command chain.

Test coverage

7 test commits from the autonomous improver: handleCompact, handleModels, glamourStyleForTheme, refresh, initDefaults, cmdTest, memory error paths.
