If avy--read-candidates doesn't find any candidates for the current
input, the user has surely made a typo. In that case, beep at the user
to make him aware of that.

Thanks, although I'm not sure what beep is supposed to do - it does nothing in my config, or in emacs -Q.
Although I remember having to turn beep off ~4 years ago.

Well, with emacs -Q it beeps so you need to have turned your speakers on. But I think many of us have set visible-bell to to t, and then (beep) flashes the frame.
