I recently subscribed to Copilot Pro, but upon using it I immediately received the following error:

"You have exceeded your premium request allowance. We have automatically switched you to GPT-4.1 which is included with your plan. Enable additional paid premium requests to continue using premium models."

This is confusing because:

I just activated my Copilot Pro subscription.

I haven’t made any significant number of requests that should trigger a usage cap.

There is no option to adjust or enable additional premium requests since I subscribed via a mobile in-app purchase (App Store / Google Play).

Could you please clarify the following:

Is there a daily/hourly limit even for new subscribers?

How can I ensure I’m getting the full GPT-4o experience included in Copilot Pro?

What are the options to increase or manage usage if I subscribed via mobile?

I am getting the same error message. I am on Copilot Pro+ so should have 1500 premium requests a month.

Its a bit concerning that I might have run out of usage on the 1st of the month!!

They only provide around 300 to 333 premium requests per month(depend on model). You can check your usage by clicking the Copilot icon at the bottom right corner of your VS Code. So make sure to use it wisely.

Hi everyone,

Wanted to provide some more details. All chat-based features—such as Ask, Edits, and Agent modes—consume premium requests when they use advanced AI models. The number of requests consumed depends on the model and its associated multiplier. Here are a few examples:

• GPT-4.5 in Copilot Chat: Uses a 50× multiplier; one interaction counts as 50 premium requests
• Claude Opus 4: Uses a 10× multiplier; one interaction counts as 10 premium requests
• GPT-4.1 and GPT-4o on paid plans: Included in the plan and do not consume premium requests

Please see the full list of Model multipliers for paid plans for more information.

Please note that Agent mode can run in the background and use up premium requests. To avoid Agent mode multipliers you can disable it by following the steps outlined here: Disabling or enabling Copilot coding agent in your repositories.

Once your monthly premium request quota is exceeded:

• Access to premium models and Copilot Code Review will be restricted for the rest of the billing cycle
• You will not be charged extra unless you have configured a Copilot Budget

If you have set a Copilot Premium Requests budget, additional usage will be billed at $0.04 USD per premium request. Once your budget is exhausted, access to premium models will stop again.

To avoid hitting your quota or incurring charges:

• Check which model you're using: Switch to GPT-4.1 or GPT-4o to avoid premium charges
• Monitor your usage: Understand which features and models are contributing most to your request count
• Be aware of rate limits: Even included models may be subject to rate limiting once quota is exceeded
