American Military Has Forgotten 9/11, Learned Nothing
May 13, 2012

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has revealed that…

…officers from all four branches of the U.S. Military were instructed at the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) in Norfolk, VA, that the “option” of waging total war on civilian populations of the Muslim faith in a manner similar to the “historical precedents of Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki” should be openly embraced and explored.

The tenor of the ideas taught, and the arrogance and utter stupidity of the teachers, and of the military itself in allowing these teachings, can be summed up in this quote from the MRFF article:

“We have now come to understand that there is no such thing as ‘moderate Islam’…This barbaric ideology will no longer be tolerated. Islam must change or we will facilitate its self-destruction.” Such phrases, as uttered by JFSC faculty member Army Lt. Col. Matthew A. Dooley, constitute openly genocidal hate speech — the likes of which have led to some of the worst horrors in modern history.

Those statements are the ravings of arrogant minds, of minds disconnected from reality, of minds that accept, as Jacob Bronowski noted, no test in reality. These minds are unhinged, are cast loose from the moorings of the real world. And these statements are the core of the education being given to American staff officers, the people who run the military.

The article goes on to note:

Firm countermeasures must be put in place to prevent the further propagation of criminal tactics and military strategies, as exemplified by the hypothetical destruction of Mecca and Medina (the paramount holy cities of the Muslim faith), and the reduction of Islam “to cult status” at the hands of a global “anti-Islamist” coalition bizarrely envisioned by JFSC faculty member Lt. Col. Dooley.

Destroy Mecca and Medina?

That is the statement, hypothetical or not, and one must suspect that it was not a hypothetical but a genuine belief, given the context, that is the statement that tells us that the United States Military has not only forgotten 9/11 but has lost its collective mind.

On 9/11 a handful of religious fanatics (a breed that currently pervades the entire American military command structure, according to the work of the MRFF) destroyed commercial buildings in New York City and part of the Pentagon, and killed, all told, some three thousand people.

The result was that the people of the United States united behind a religiously deluded President and went on a rampage in the Islamic world, a rampage that served no purpose, that destroyed two countries (three if you count the damage the United States has inflicted on itself), and that has done, in final effect, nothing to stem terrorism.

Do the geniuses at the JFSC think that bombing Mecca and Medina, located in the lands of an ally, Saudi Arabia, will bring the Islamic world to its knees? Do they think that inflicting massive civilian casualties (which we have already done in Iraq and Afghanistan, to virtually no avail) will make the Muslim world bow down to us, beg our forgiveness, and offer us free oil for a hundred years? That appears to be what the United States Military thinks and is inculcating in its command staff.

No. The Islamic world will do what the United States did. They will unite behind a leader, or a series of leaders, and there will be no place in the world, including at home, where Americans will be safe from the insanity an attack on Mecca and Medina will unleash. There will be no fleets of Islamic planes and ships attacking the United States, but no American corporation will be able to operate overseas; no American tourist will be safe anywhere in the world; no American politician will be safe walking from his front door to his car in the morning. And it is likely that following such an act against the Islamic world our allies in Europe and Asia will abandon the United States. With good reason: the United States will have become a bastion of madness and terror, a snakepit of delusion and mass hallucination, a genocidal horror loose in the world.

But our military geniuses apparently haven’t a clue. They have allowed the Christian crazies into their ranks and would seem to have bought into the Christian delusion of religious dominance of the world through the use of American military power. Christianity is at best a delusion, but coupled with military and political power it is a disease, a virulent sickness, a  mind-destroying plague that must be stamped out of our military, from top to bottom, without mercy.

And the sooner it is excised as well from our political life the better. America is a diseased nation, and the disease is religion. It leads to national madness, and the virulence infecting the military will feed into the plague infecting the civilian governance. The world, and the nation, will pay a horrible price for such delusional arrogance and madness.

Spotting Bias In The News From The Bush Administration. A Really Really Serious Skill…
July 26, 2007

Seldom do you come across a story with such blatant bias that even a mainstream news reporter can spot it. Such is the case with a story in the Globe today headlined “Study says 95% of Guantanamo detainees had posed a threat”. The story was nicely written by William Glaberson of the New York Times News Service.

Some key points:

  • “…a new study requested by the Pentagon argues that large numbers of the detainees there were a direct threat to US forces”
  • “The report, by a terrorism study center at West Point…”
  • “…(the report) asserts that publicly available information indicates that 73% of detainees were (a threat)…”
  • “The authors make clear that one of their goals was to affect public attitudes.”

And the last graf:

The report analyzes previously released military summaries of the unclassified evidence used in 516 of the military hearings that determine whether detainees are properly held as enemy combatants. It was written at the request of the Pentagon by the Combating Terrorism Center at the US Military Academy at West Point, a teaching and research center that describes itself as “actively involved in supporting the global war on terror.”

Is there any reason at all to think that this report is truthful?

How about a little context? “Publicly available information”? You mean what the Bush/Cheney/Pentagon military complex chooses to make public, which is very little and which they won’t make public unless it serves their political and propaganda goals? This administration could announce that the sun is shining on a sunny day and you know they would be lying or distorting or undermining more of the Constitution and the law.

As for the prisoners, it has been well established that any hearings that they manage to get are little more than kangaroo courts. Prisoners of the Spanish Inquisition were better off. Our vaunted and honorable military refuses to tell these guys what evidence is held against them. The operational rule is “It’s a secret, nyah nyah nyah raghead.”

And if you read the Chris Hedges article in The Nation, The Other War: Iraq Vets Bear Witness (you may need a subscription), you’ll quickly discover that there’s an incredibly high likelihood that, yup, most of the guys in Guantanamo are guilty of nothing more than getting in the way of a pissed-off American soldier breaking into their homes at three in the morning, shooting their dog, and terrifying the wife and kids.

As for the prisoners who might actually have sought to harm American soldiers, well, hello, of course. Invasion. Occupation. Death. Destruction. Atrocities. Slaughtered women. Murdered children. Iraqis fighting to defend their country, their homes, their children, their women – oh, yeah, that’s a real crime deserving of indefinite lockup in an American hellhole a la Kafka. They have a right to kill Americans. Even the soldiers know it.

Maybe, too, someone should remind the geniuses at the Pentagon and the White House that our army is fighting on Iraqi (and Afghani) home soil. Even the fighters from other countries have commonality with Iraq. It’s Arab. It’s Muslim. Does anyone seriously think those people will ever – ever – stop fighting us?

I wouldn’t if the situation were reversed. Never. But I would never fight for the sick, pathetic, delusional bastards who run this country now. The United States, yes. Bush and company, never –  I’d throw them to the enemy sooner rather than later.

As for the article Glaberson wrote, I’m not picking on him. He did a nice, if delightfully unsubtle,  job revealing the bias of the Pentagon report. A good thing would be for more reporters to follow his lead and make the constant and daily biases and distortions clear instead of falling back on the ultimately ludicrous idea of ‘objective balance’.

We, as citizens, have to question everything, especially these days. And remember what I. F. Stone said:

All governments lie, but disaster lies in wait for countries whose officials smoke the same hashish they give out.

It might be a good idea, in that context, to remember that Bush was a cokehead and a drunk.

The Military DREAM Act: Mislabeled?
June 16, 2007

Bryan Bender writes in the Globe today about a provision buried in the immigration bill under consideration in Congress. It’s called the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act.

Bender writes that the provision “would grant instant legal status and ultimately full citizenship to illegal immigrants if they enlist in the US military, an idea the Pentagon and military analysts say would boost the Pentagon’s flagging efforts to find and recruit qualified soldiers.”

Ya gotta love the way the military comes up with these acronyms that make killing and getting shot, losing legs, arms, brain function, testicles, pieces of your ass, noses, jaws, teeth, sound like a wonderful experience. Yup yup yup getting killed or maimed or psychology impaired for your country is a real DREAM.

Here’s the goodies:

Those who enlist under the provision would become eligible for a so-called Z visa, granting them probationary, or conditional, status as a legal resident – the first step toward full citizenship. Upon enlistment they would also become eligible for federal student loans and other benefits they are currently denied as undocumented immigrants.

Of course before anyone jumps at this offer, you might want to consider how well the military has been treating its soldiers the last few years. Walter Reed Hospital was just a blip. Mental health care is a joke. And you might want to start researching how much the military really pays in college costs, etcetera, that the recruiters dangle before potential raw meat.

Now what they’re looking for, according to a summary of the bill, are high school graduates “who are ‘honor roll students, star athletes, talented artists, aspiring teachers, and doctors.'” If I were a little bit cynical I’d read that as ‘let’s get the best immigrant kids and kill, cripple, and maim them’.

But here’s the real kicker:

…retired Air Force Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney, a conservative commentator and military analyst…added that those eligible would probably be higher caliber than some of the recruits who have joined the Army…And they would be making the ultimate demonstration of loyalty to their adopted country, he said, putting their lives on the line.

Think about that for a minute. You put your life, your body, and your mind on the line, risking everything, and if you survive, guess what? You might get probationary status as a legal resident.

Damn, if they’re going to go out there and do the Little Psychopath’s dirty, illegal work for him they should at least get to be full citizens immediately.

The DREAM offer is like telling your illegal gardener and houseboy you might throw him a bag of leaky canned goods for his family if he behaves himself.

General Petraeus Crunches Reality
June 15, 2007

From ThinkProgress:

In an interview with USA Today yesterday, Gen. David Petraeus, top commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, claimed that he sees “astonishing signs of normalcy” in Baghdad:

“I’m talking about professional soccer leagues with real grass field stadiums, several amusement parks — big ones, markets that are very vibrant. … The Iraqi army has, in general, done quite well in the face of some really serious challenges.”

Yet, a report released yesterday by the Pentagon — “the first comprehensive statistical overview of the new U.S. military strategy in Iraq” — directly contradicts Petraeus’ optimistic assessments:

Overall, however, violence “has increased in most provinces, particularly in the outlying areas of Baghdad province and Diyala and Ninewa provinces,” … In Diyala’s restive capital of Baqubah, U.S. and Iraq forces “have been unable to diminish rising sectarian violence contributing to the volatile security situation,” [the report] said. … [I]t cited “significant evidence” of attacks on Sunni Arabs by the predominantly Shiite government security forces, which have contributed to the displacement of an estimated 2 million Iraqis from their homes.
