Tariq Rajab Museum


This is absurd. Permit or no permit. This is one of the most fascinating museums in Kuwait. One of the most fascinating museums in general even. The pieces there are amazingly well-preserved and wonderfully displayed. The effort that went into collecting them, I am certain, is beyond mere admiration. How can we be such a dead nation for whom art has become a commodity so easily destroyed?

The Tariq Rajab museum has received a warning that it will be demolished within three days if the museum keeper did not obtain a permit. This is, mind you, a privately owned museum where entrance is free of charge. Can’t one acquire pieces of art without a permit? Or does Mr. Rajab have to keep his museum closed to the public to maintain its status?

I am baffled.

Update: The decision has been withdrawn. Museum stays. It’s good to know we still have a few people in those top positions who value art.
