Back on Whiscalina

After having a break from riding for approximately six weeks it was time for Whiscalina to do a little bit of work again.

We certainly started slowly again with her, but the saddle and bridle was still very familiar to her. Once she got going on the lunge line and got some bucks out of her we realized she had become much stronger. She felt very secure about herself and did not mind showing off her beautiful trot!

Getting back on was also no problem and Whiscalina was glad to show me that she had not forgotten how to comfortably walk & trot under saddle.

Wow what a horse! and what a mind!

On The Road Again

Usually, when I gather things together the morning of a horse event it usually involves taking cold drink out of the fridge. This morning things were quite different. It involved making hot chocolate and tea since we were heading out in bitter cold temperatures!

The reason of this roadtrip was to attend a clinic with Sue Fraser in New Brunswick. Darren was wondering why we actually wanted to do something like this on the coldest day of the year? I guess if you love the sport you're up for anything and I must say once we got rolling the cold was bearable.

Kionus went extremely nice! He seemed to enjoy getting out and doing his exercises in a different environment. Sue's help always does wonders to him! Ambre was also very pleased with Wanja. Sue immediately noticed the improvement Wanja had made from the last time she had seen her.

Sue may be coming to PEI within a few weeks! Hopefully, many Island riders will be interested in attending. Her clinics are very encouraging, the positive difference she can make to both rider and horse is amazing and makes it totally worthwhile!

Whiscalina

Another picture of Whiscalina enjoying Saturday's spring like weather:

Quiet & Mild Winter

The snow was melting again this weekend! So far, it has been extremely mild this winter. The snow comes but seems to disappear even quicker! It's wonderful weather for the horses and especially riding! Yesterday it was 10 degrees in the indoor area. Above you can see that the snow is melting slowly in the outdoor as well, but it's not quite ready yet for riding.

The horses are enjoying this weather very much. They are able to go out every day to enjoy the quiet mild weather. Everyone, expect Whiscalina, is exercised on a regular basis. Kionus is enjoying his training this winter which varies from dressage to jumping. His favorite type of exercise is actually free jumping, which he also does once a week. He's going very nice. Hopefully, the weather will continue to be like this so that we can go over to New Brunswick later this month to attend a clinic with Sue Fraser.

Whiscalina has been on break since early January. She was doing everything we could ask for. Although, she's not ridden right now she still continues to learn. Just like Kionus, she enjoys her weekly free jumping exercise very much. She's got a very interesting technique. Other than that, she's behaving extremely well for a 3 year old! Can't wait till spring is here, so that she can be ridden outside and come with us to different places simply to look around and become familiar with everything!
