On May 4, Baku Marathon 2025 was held on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Up to 28 thousand participants were registered to participate in the competition held under the slogan “Win the Wind”.
Held for the 8th time, the Baku Marathon was joined by well-known public and political persons, people of art, as well as intellectuals. In general, the marathon had over 200 official and honorary participants.
Along with citizens of Azerbaijan, the marathon was joined by also foreigners working and residing in Azerbaijan, as well as people from other countries, such as Germany, the United States of America, Australia, Bahrein, the United Arab Emirates, the Great Britain, France, India, Spain, Italy, Canada, Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Poland, Russia, Türkiye, Ukraine etc.
Before the start, some participants shared their impressions of the marathon.
Physically disabled persons and children with Down syndrome also participated in the marathon.
Although the time for start was 10 a.m., competition mood was felt at the Flag Square since 7 in the morning. Training on yoga and warming-up was held in the athletes’ zone created here for the participants, and in the fan zone, DJs demonstrated their skills; here were also organized various entertainments, and interactive games.
With the start and finish point being at the State Flag Square, the marathon’s route covered the Seaside Boulevard, central streets and avenues, in total, a distance of 21 kilometres.
Various entertainment zones were also organized at various addresses of the city along the marathon’s route.
The winner among men was Atac Sezgin from Türkiye. Vitali Shafar from Ukraine crossed the finish line second. And the bronze medal was won by another representative of Türkiye, Murat Emekdar.
In the competition of women, Natalya Semenovich from Ukraine came to the finish line first. Representing Azerbaijan, Anna Yusipova was second, while Erico Soma from Japan took the third place.
Among the students, students of the Azerbaijan Sports Academy Miyana Khalilova and Nihad Jabbarly reached the finish line ahead of all others.
In the competition of para-cyclists, Tofig Babayev took the first place, while Orkhan Nabiyev and Behlul Aliyev were second and third, accordingly.
A corporate participant reaching the finish line first was Teymur Farajov.
Winners were presented medals and prizes.
Rewarding of the Baku Marathon 2025 winners was in two categories. On the lane, men and women participants of the marathon competed for the first three places. In each of the men and women categories, the winner of the 1st place was rewarded with 3000 Manats, with the winners of the 2nd and 3rd places earning 2000 AZN and 1000AZN, accordingly. In addition, they were presented gifts, medals, and certificates. First 2000 participants crossing the finish line were rewarded with the medals “Baku Marathon 2025”. Moreover, all volunteers supporting the marathon participants and in the organization of the competition were presented certificates. Over 400 volunteers were involved in the marathon. 500 RIIB (Regional Development Public Union) volunteers from regions joined the marathon as a participant.
As a tradition, an entertainment zone was created at the State Flag Square for the marathon participants, city residents, and guests of the city. Here were organized various entertainments, competitions, sports events, as well as a music programme with participation of favourite performers.
