RIP IV

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s that time.  The time for curling up with spooky, creepy, spine-tingling stories.  The time to read the macabre, the blood-thirsty, the spell-binding.  The time for pumpkins on the front porch, for trees to be riots of color, for soups and stews, for my most favorite reading challenge of all challenges!!! It’s time for RIP IV!!!

Of course, I’m joining this challenge.  I’ve done it since the first year.  I haven’t always completed it, but I’ve always had a great time.  Go to Carl’s blog to find out more.

As usual, I have a ton of books to read that fit this category. I’ve decided to do Peril the First and the Short Story challenges.  I have lots more books I could read that fit this category, but I’ve narrowed it down to these twelve. With a whole lot of luck and help from the hubby, I hope I can finish four of them!

1. Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (Have a gorgeous new edition I’ve been dying to read)

2. Dracula by Bram Stoker (will THIS be the year I make it through this book?)

3. My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier

4. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (I’ve been wanting to reread this one)

5. The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

6. Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott

7. The Ghost Writer by John Harwood

8. The Seance by John Harwood

9. Thirst by Christopher Pike (My first Pike in, like, 15 years! *fangirlscream*

These are the two books I plan on reading short stories from. Keeping this a little more simple 🙂

So, I’ve been going over all my books the last few days.  I’ve been trying to decide what I am going to read tomorrow for the 24 Hour READ-A-THON!!!! (That was in my best “ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLE” voice)

Here is what I have come up with so far.  Most likely to at least glance at:

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl (cause I’ve only ever read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a fact I have bemoaned for a few years now.  And it’s short.)
Mathilda by Roald Dahl (same reason stated above)
Inkheart and Inkspell by Cornelia Funke (because the last one, Inkdeath, just came out and I want to refresh my memory of these EXCELLENT books)
The 19th Wife by David Ebersoff (because I have to review it for the book tour on the 23rd.  Don’t forget to stop by and comment!!)
The Coyote Road ed. by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling (been meaning to read it forever.  Figure I can read one short story an hour, to give me a break from the current read and still get some reading in!)
City of Thieves by David Benioff (got this out of the library, it looks so good and kinda short, for a novel)

Other possibilities:

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
Sweethearts by Sara Zarr
Skylight Confessions by Alice Hoffman
A few of the Fables graphic novels
A couple Jack of Fables

Of course, I have to go the library today, so it is quite possible I will pick up anything that catches my eye.  And I think I’ll probably read a few books with Ellie.  I’d like to get her in on the action.   See you all here, bright and early, tomorrow!!
