We had a pretty quiet ordinary day today, but of course I have some highlights:
1. Found a binky that Wesley likes (finally!) - Cross my fingers that this is still true tomorrow.
2. Went to Target and bought Wesley a new swing, some hats to cover his ever growing receiding hairline and Preston got that Elephant/Butterflies game.
3. Playing Scene It on Xbox with Branden, Heidi, Tom, Cam & Kamaile Heide until midnight
4. Went to aerobics (and actually worked out not just sat in a chair) - on the way home that song that goes "It's too late to apologize" came on the radio and Preston said "This is my dad's favorite song" and then he started to sing it. I wish I had video of it. Just hearing him say the apologize was hilarious. And I must say he has a pretty good voice and sang it in tune :)
5. Found out my best friend Lizzy is having another baby (#4). Congratulations Lizzy!
Yeah for the weekend!

Thursday, February 28, 2008 Highlights
Today was a busy day in the Matthews house:
1. The 3 of us were able to make it Playgroup this morning which is always a great place for Preston to get energy out and for me to visit with my friends. We were only 15 minutes late. I am getting better.
2. Grandma Hollie came over and helped me bathe the boys (one of her favorite things to do).
3. Naptime (always a highlight of every day).
4. A lady selling magazines came to my door today. I said, "I am sorry but I am headed out the door right now" She said, "Don't be sorry that my children will go hungry" What??? I do not like those door to door sales people. I always am a sucker for them because I don't like to say no to them. And today she was so rude to me. Urg!
5. Preston and I took Wesley over to meet some friends of ours - the Micheners.
6. Went to a favorite Chinese restaurant with the Harmer family.
7. Tom is at the church right now setting up Human Foosball for Seminary tomorrow so I had to put both boys to bed tonight.
Days like this you lay down at night and go right to sleep! Ahhh. I have to finish American Idol first though - hee hee.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 Highlights
1. This morning I came downstairs and set a fussy Wesley on the couch and then went into the kitchen to make a bottle. I put the glass measuring cup in the microwave to boil water for his bottle. That's when I heard the garbage truck outside. I asked Tom if he took the garbage out and he said No so we both ran out to the garage to put the garbage out. When we were done we came inside to a crying Preston. He had gone in the kitchen to make Wesley a bottle. He got a bottle down and nipple and then took the water our of the microwave. He poured the water into the bottle and then somehow it spilled and burned his hand. The poor little guy was just trying to help. I couldn't believe how he knew how to make a bottle - he is so observant. He doesn't like to hear Wesley cry. Whenever Wesley is crying, Preston says, "Help him mom."
2. My Visiting Teachers came today. Even though they have done so much for me this month (meals and playdates for Preston), they still came today to share a message (which was very needed after missing church for 4 weeks now). They also brought their kids which makes Preston so happy. All morning Preston kept opening the front door looking to see if they had come yet. Grace even folded some laundry for me while I was busy putting Wesley to sleep. Those little acts of service mean so much.
3. My mom came and woke me up from my nap at 5:30pm!! I didn't even know her and Heidi were coming over. They came right after the 3 of us had just laid down for a nap. They quietly came into my room and took Wesley downstairs so I could get a long nap. They had been there for about 2 hours while I slept. Thanks mom and Heidi - I am the happiest mom ever because I have so much help.
4. Wesley is one month old today! Time flies when you have a newborn... the past 4 weeks just all mesh together. So much has changed the month for our family - all wonderful. We all have definitely had to adjust to the new little one joining our family, but I feel like he now belongs and our family is more complete with him.

1. Getting My House Cleaned by Renata - In my last blog I wrote all about the happiness I experience when Renata comes to my house and clean. Walking into my house after it has been deep cleaned once a month brings a twinkle of joy to my life. It truly is some of the best money I spend all month (after groceries). Getting my house completely clean once a month makes me feel like I have accomplished something big. Today she came and it looks and smells wonderful! I know - I am spoiled :) I get it from my mother-in-law.

2. Seattle Aquarium - With Tom having this week off we went to the Aquarium today. It was really fun. Preston touched a starfish, sea anome, and sea cucumber. His favorite part was the sea lions, sea otters wrestling, and the "river otter going potty on the rock." Don't you just love the obsession 3 year olds have with the bathroom? Potty talk is the topic of discussion at the Matthews house right now.
3. We all call Wesley silly terms of endearment in a high baby talk voice. Tonight Preston was mimicing us and called Wesley a "Silly Monkey Stinky Head" He tells us everyday, "Wesley is so cute. He is so little." He asks a couple of times a day to hold him. I have been impressed with how great of a big brother he is - we have had no problems. And watch out - Preston tells us that 2 babies are coming out of his tummy soon.

On A Roll Again
So here we are, day 2. All day I kept thinking about what my highlights for today were going to be, so here they are:

1. I made it to aerobics - hip, hip, hooray! I was about 3o minutes late. Tom is taking his 2nd week of paternity leave so he stayed home with Wesley. I took my mat and did 3 exercises from my C-section book. They were pathetic so I started to do some of the leg lifts and squats. I am ready to move, and sweat and get my heart rate up again, or am I? When I get the okay from the doctor at 6 weeks and it is finally time, I am sure the complaining will start. (It will be necessary because today I ate about 10 Girl Scout Cookies - I am going to have Tom hide them from me. Those things are addicting.)
2. Wesley is an old man! - Why? because he is losing all his hair in a receding hairline. Yesterday it was noticible, today it was REALLY bad. I am traumatized by this new look! I looked online and it will take 3 months for it to grow back. I asked Heidi if I should shave his head and she said, "Just have him wear a hat." So from now on, he will be sporting a hat. He really looks like an old man when he cries and his foreheard gets wrinkles and his face is all scrunched. I will try and get a picture of that, but for today, I just had the receding hairline picture:
3. Wesley rolled over today. Was it just a fluke? I dunno. What were the chances that I was taking pictures of him at the time too? (this is for real, I promise). It is true that you should never leave a newborn on a bed or counter top because it can happen!!
4. Preston LOVES his pajamas. We go through 3 pairs of pajamas a day (at least). I tell him he has to wear clothes when we go places (except aerobics), but as soon as we get home he runs upstairs to put on another pair of pajamas. Who can blame him? His mother is addicted to black sweats. Today he came out and said, "Look mom, a match, green and green" Someday I hope he understands how to match patterns.

Here We Go Again
So this is the 3rd blog that I have started.... so I am going to try again. I am going to do my top 3 highlights of the day so I can create a type of gratitude journal because I have so many fun memories that I want to remember. But to start it off I am going to do my top 10 list for today so here goes:
1. Smiles from Wesley - The past 3 days we have seen smiles from Wesley. As any mother knows this is a huge step to finally see your baby acknowledge you and respond to you. I realized something about Wesley the first time I saw him smile. My whole life some people have told me that I smile with my eyes. After years of not knowing what people meant by this, the first time I saw Wesley smile I finally realized what everyone was saying. So I guess that means that Wesley has my eyes (poor guy). I asked Preston to smile to see if this happened when Preston smiles - nope. Preston just had a cute left cheek dimple.
2. Today (actually this whole week) we had some SUNSHINE! It has been so beautiful and warm. Preston and I walked 1.2 miles from our house to the Matthews today. It was so fun to be with Preston, be outside and getting a little exercise. We didn't go to church today which makes for a hard day being cooped up in the house all day. Preston and I found an orange pellet (for a pellet gun), a huge pinecone, and lots of rocks were thrown - 2 almost hit cars driving by!
3. Double Breastmilk Pump. I know this is weird. But I do not like breastfeeding. I tried with Wesley - for 2 days and then gave up. But because of this pump my baby gets breastmilk for as long as I can keep it up (probably just a couple more weeks). I am also grateful because I have gotten in some good reading time while pumping and enjoy the quiet time sitting in a quiet room.
4. We also sold the Camry!!! We have been trying to sell it for 3 weeks now. Tom bought the car in 2001 for $1200 and we sold it for $750. This was the car that Tom proposed to me in. Was I even a tiny bit sad to see it go? - not at all! Tom just recently bought a Lexus IS 300 so we now have 2 really realiable cars.
5. Wesley's Sleeping - I cannot complain at all about my sleeping baby. Wesley sleeps so much (Preston was horrible). Now I see why women have babies closer than 3 years apart. I was traumatized by Preston's newborn months. I feed Wesley at 11pm, wakes up about 3:30 or 4 and then wakes up about 7 or 7:30. He is such an angel baby - I might not wait the full 3 years to have another one (we will see! this all might change in a couple of weeks).
6. Jan's Lemon Chicken - Every Sunday we go over to the Matthews for dinner. Thursday I called Jan and requested Lemon Chicken for this Sunday because it is so good. I had 2 servings it was so good. I was a little nervous being over there today because Tim is getting over bronchitis and Grandma Wilkinson has been sick too. I'll be praying tonight my children don't get sick.
7. Family - I just have to put this in because it meant so much to me. Yesterday I went down to my mom's house and took a 2 1/2 hour nap while my mom and Heidi watched the kiddos. Preston helped Uncle John outside while my mom held Wesley probably the whole time I was sleeping. I love living so close to family. Love it! Grandpa and Grandma Smith came up to see the baby this weekend.
8. Preston being Potty Trained - Preston is fully potty trained (even went #2 in a strangers bathroom tonight). How did I do it? - I didn't - Preston did it himself. When we were putting up the Christmas tree this year we heard him go upstairs and went tinkle. While I was in the hospital my dad witnessed Preston standing up and going tinkle and all I had to do was go to the store and buy him toy cars to get him to go poop. He refuses to let anyone go into the bathroom with him because he needs "piracy." This is one of the positive things about my spirited child - he does things himself.
9. Aerobics - It has been 4 weeks now since I have been to aerobics. I really miss it. I feel so disconnected from my friends. I can't wait to get back - and I can't wait to start teaching again. Another reason why I am so grateful for aerobics is that I owe aerobics the credit for my great recovery. I have only 2 lbs left to lose because I am back to my prepregnancy weight - can you believe it!!?? These types of things NEVER happen to me. I also am feeling back to normal. I just have to wait 2 weeks to get the okay from my doctor and I will be back!
10. Being a mom - I love being a mom. Each day I look forward to the challenges of being a mom. I wouldn't want anything else.
I am putting a reminder in my computer so I remember to keep this up! I hope you all enjoy reading about my life.
