Foreign tourists return to Tibet

April 6, 2009

Tourists have begun arriving in Tibet again, Chinese state media reports.

China has re-opened the region after it was closed to travelers for almost two months because of security fears linked to a number of sensitive anniversaries.

Well, it has been a while since I have written anything about Tibet mostly due to the economic crisis in the U.S. and the World which I have been following, but upon seeing the BBC report I did some checking knowing full well that the whole truth was not be told and I was correct. Take a look at what has been going on in Tibet and why they did not want tourist around!

Protesters, journalist detained in Beijing

August 14, 2008

BEIJING, China (CNN) — A British journalist and eight Tibet activists were detained during a protest near an Olympic venue Wednesday, the journalist and an activist group said.

The activists unfurled banners that said “Free Tibet” and “Tibetans Are Dying for Freedom” at a cultural museum, said Lhadon Tethong, executive director of Students for a Free Tibet ( click here for their news release )

Police in Beijing said in a statement that eight foreign nationals were detained while conducting illegal activities about 12:20 p.m
You will note they say “ illegal activities “, obviously peaceful protest is an illegal activity in China, It was noted that seven of the eight detained were American.

It is a moving video and shows what the Tibetans have to put up with at the hands of the Chinese.

Tibetan Demonstrations and protest in China/ No Longer a Secret

Many are not aware that there have been demonstrations and protest in CHINA itself and not just in other countries. For obvious reasons this is information that the Chinese government does not let out to the world. But in this modern day and age it is impossible for such information to remain a secret. There are courageous individuals who have managed to compile the information and get it out to the world. Here is a list that I have managed to obtain that shows the various locations in CHINA where these demonstrations and protest have in fact taken place.

This information is and has gotten out and I am certain there are relatives of people living in these towns that know this to be true. Obviously for security reasons there are no links for this post.

Those who have relatives in these towns may be able to verify this information.

Thai security greets Olympic torch

(CNN) — The Olympic flame arrived in Bangkok early Friday from New Delhi, India, where extraordinary security measures kept thousands of anti-Chinese protesters mostly at bay during a shortened relay on Thursday.
Relay officials said they’ve mapped an alternate path for the 80 torch-bearers if needed to bypass demonstrators along a six-mile (10 km) route that would take the flame by Bangkok’s major landmarks.

Passing the torch

The torch along with its stern-faced Chinese security agents arrived on a Chinese charter flight that was the only flight to land at the the military side of Don Muang airport, well away from the general public.
It landed at 2.40am Thailand time, and the Chinese embassy scared up around 30 Thai-Chinese to wave Chinese and Olympics flags (no Thai flags) as the plane landed, according to the news agency AFP.

And this week, as Annie watched the chaotic scenes of the Olympic flame relay in London, the sight of men in blue tracksuits flanking the torch sent shivers down her spine.

Torch Relay Route Gets Shorter Each Time

Here is a humorous thought: At the rate the Torch relay route keeps getting shorter and shorter as it makes its way through each country they will soon be forced to make a lap around the airports they land in instead of around the cities!
The Torch relay route seems to get shorter each time they land in the next country and China’s baby-blue special forces, the People’s Liberation Army Sacred Flame Protection Unit (PLASFPU) keep taking on more of the appearance of Hired Thugs one might find at a strike! So much so that Australia has already said:
– Chinese guards traveling with the Olympic torch could face arrest if they lay hands on any protesters during its visit to Australia’s capital next week.
Obviously the Aussies plan on protecting their protesters! As for India they had to call out around 15,000 police to:

guard the torch later on Thursday as it takes a relay route, already shortened because of fears of demonstrations, through the city’s former British colonial boulevards that have been lined with barriers and wire meshing.

There goes that word again “ Shortened “ .
Japan isn’t taking any chances either:

Japanese authorities have cancelled a public celebration linked to the Beijing Olympic torch relay later this month in the city of Nagano due to security concerns, a local official said Tuesday.

I have no doubt that the Big Bash is going to be in Australia when the Torch relay lands in Canberra on the 24th. I am certain the Aussies are going to want to out-do the Paris, London, and San Francisco protesters.

URGENT APPEAL TO INDIAN CITIZENS & OLYMPIC TORCH-BEARERS:

When China’s Torch Comes to India on April 17th – Speak out for Tibet.

We appeal to all Indian citizens and, in particular, those people chosen to be Olympic torch-bearers, to speak out for the Tibetan people when China’s Torch comes to India on April 17th. At this critical moment, when countless Tibetans are suffering under a violent military crackdown by the Chinese government, we need to show that global citizens support the Tibetan people’s right to be free and to live their lives as they see fit.

The courageous actions taken by Tibetans inside Tibet over the past few weeks demonstrate that Tibetans have suffered unimaginably under a half century of Chinese rule. They are now risking everything and crying out for freedom. By speaking out when the Chinese government brings the Olympic Torch to India you will send a strong message to Tibetans, to the Chinese government, and to the world, that Indians support the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people’s nonviolent struggle for freedom and justice.
