“Working with our Planning team has been rewarding and a great learning curve after college. My confidence has improved a lot.”  Tommy Rafter joined Mercury’s Graduate Programme last year on a data centre project in Helsinki. The Graduate Planner says, “A data centre can be a daunting environment to begin your career in construction, but there’s no better place to learn about large scale projects.” Tommy studied Construction Management and Engineering, and his work involves developing and tracking package schedules. He’s also received exposure to package management which is “an area I’ve always wanted to learn more about.”  The people at Mercury have played an important part in Tommy’s first year on the job. “The team is growing fast, and it’s been exciting to see the progress we’re making. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, an important reminder of the devastating impact suicide continues to have across the construction industry. Last year, we launched the Mercury Wellbeing Hub, giving our people access to a range of professional support. More than 1,000 employees have since joined the platform. Our people are at the heart of Mercury. We have a duty to protect their physical and mental wellbeing, creating a safe place to work and a safe place to talk. Mercury is scaling data centre delivery in Spain.    Spain is a key region for our continued growth across Europe. “Our adaptability, focus on process and open communication with our clients has allowed us to scale to bigger projects in the Nordics.” Commissioning Manager Damien Callery has played a key role on Mercury projects in Denmark, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands and now Finland, over the last 8 years. Damien’s role is varied, and ranges from “producing reports for our client to coordination meetings with subcontractors and daily site inspections.” Key to Commissioning success is a relentless focus on process. “We follow specific processes to ensure all project equipment, cabling and pipework is completed to the highest standards before we handover to our client.” This involves “Tagging, visual inspections and checklists” which need to be followed and verified. Since starting with Mercury, Damien has learned “the importance of being honest and admitting when mistakes have been made or if you’ve found a way to improve. Mercury’s Graduate Programme is building our future leaders. Next month, a new generation of graduates will begin their careers with us, taking their first steps on some of Europe’s most advanced engineering and construction projects. Pauric Duffy started his Mercury journey as a Graduate Project Planner in Amsterdam. Today, he is a Project Manager in the Netherlands, having built his career across major projects in Amsterdam and Berlin.
