Accelerating the deployment of wastewater treatment capacity at a lower cost
About us
VorTech Water Solutions (VWS) solves energy intensive municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. Wastewater treatment has a massive energy footprint, consuming 1-2% of the world’s electricity. This is being continuously intensified by population growth and increasingly stringent treatment regulations. A significant contributor to the energy demand is the aeration process in biological treatment, accounting for up to 1% of the world’s electricity, which continues to employ outdated and inefficient aeration technologies. Energy efficiency has never had sufficient focus in the design of aeration systems. The Vortex Power Aerator, a novel wastewater aeration technology that massively reduces the energy of wastewater aeration has been developed to reduce the footprint of these processes. VorTech Water Solutions specialises in providing energy efficient water and wastewater solutions together with high-value services such as computational fluid dynamics and process modelling to maximise treatment performance at the lowest energy input. With years of expertise in fluid dynamics, wastewater process, control, and energy, we have developed the Vortex Power Aerator, cyclonic aeration approach which massively reduces the cost of aeration by up to 50%.

🔊 Reducing noise. Improving communities. Environmental noise is an increasingly important consideration for wastewater treatment plants — not just for regulatory compliance, but for operator safety and community relations. A recent independent noise emission survey compared conventional aeration systems with Vortex Powered Aeration™ (VPA™) at two operational wastewater treatment plants. The results were clear: ✔️ Up to 10–14 dB noise reduction at peak locations when replacing surface aerators ✔️ Average reductions of 7 dB across oxidation ditches ✔️ 6.5 dB peak noise reduction compared to fine bubble diffused aeration with blowers ✔️ Meaningful decreases in perceived loudness — without additional sound attenuation equipment Because a 10 dB reduction is perceived as roughly halving loudness, these improvements can significantly reduce a plant’s acoustic footprint, help meet boundary limits, and improve relationships with surrounding communities. At Vortech, we believe performance shouldn’t come at the cost of noise. VPA™ delivers efficient aeration with quieter operation built in. #WastewaterTreatment #Aeration #NoiseReduction #VPA #SustainableInfrastructure #EnvironmentalEngineering #CommunityImpact

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐱 "𝐃𝐚𝐲 1" 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.📉 When specifying wastewater treatment systems, we often look at peak efficiency numbers. But in the field, performance is a moving target. Data shows that traditional Fine Bubble Diffused Aeration (FBDA) is a race against time (Source: Sobhani et al., 2015 – Diffuser Membrane Efficiency and its Associated Aeration Energy, WEF Proceedings). Depending on your choice of material, perforation pattern, air flow rate and wastewater characteristics, the "Fouling Tax" can hit your operational budget hard: 🔹 EPDM and Polyurethane: Even the best performers can lose significant efficiency over time. In many conditions, efficiency can plummet by 50% as pores clog and scaling takes hold. 🔹 Vortech VPA: By using fluid mechanics instead of flexible membranes with tiny perforations to generate our fine bubbles, we maintain consistent performance. We have no membrane to foul and so don't have a "best-case" or "worst-case" material scenario. Engineers and end users receive exactly what they planned for; effective, consistent oxygen transfer performance for the life of the plant. For utilities and industrial plants, this means predictable energy costs, lower maintenance risks, and no performance surprises 5 years down the line. By removing the "Day 1" performance gamble, we enable utilities to lock in their energy budgets and ESG targets for the long term. #EngineeringSubstance #WastewaterTreatment #EnergyEfficiency #VortechSolutions #Infrastructure #SustainableTech #WaterInnovation

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫! Pleased to announce that our latest Vortech Powered Aeration (VPA) units have just been delivered to Central Highlands Water in Victoria, Australia. This marks our second deployment in the region, and with another forward thinking utility committed to water innovation and sustainability. VPA was designed to eliminate key efficiency and maintenance headaches of traditional aeration. Our first installation was on the west coast. This latest mid-Australia deployment is testament to the region's demand for smarter, more resilient water infrastructure and will help showcase benefits of the latest technology. A big thank you to the team on the ground for efforts to date. Stay tuned for project updates in due course. Was a pleasure to have Max Rao, P.Eng. of Aquafy Water Technologies Inc. join us at a Vortex Powered Aeration (VPA) facility on the west coast of Ireland last week. If you would like to learn more about VPA for new build or if we can help upgrade an existing treatment plant with a simple drop-in solution, just let us know. https://lnkd.in/eXqqSph8
Thank you to Sean Mulligan at Vortech Water Solutions for taking me to view a VPA installation in Ireland. It was interesting to learn about the "pulsing" mode of operation (2 minutes on, 4 times per hour) with a control loop based on ORP and DO. This results in excellent performance with extremely low energy consumption. We also spoke extensively about including a N2O sensor (Unisense Environment A/S) and Nitrate/Nitrite (Aquamonitrix® - On-line Analysers) inputs in the future. We continue to be excited to represent Vortech Water Solutions in Ontario, Canada.

Across the world, utilities are under pressure to lower energy use, reduce maintenance, and deliver reliable treatment with fewer moving parts. In Australia, that shift just took a decisive step forward with the commissioning of the first Vortex Powered Aeration (VPA™) installation by Water Corporation of Western Australia. This milestone is part of a broader trend we’ve been following closely at BlueTech Research — the transition from lighthouse projects to tipping points. Our latest report on Vortech Water Solutions charts this journey: from early field units built at the University of Galway to a global footprint spanning industrial and municipal sites across Europe, North America, and now the Asia-Pacific region. By 2025, Vortech’s systems serve more than 470,000 population equivalent and 61 MLD of flow, growing at over 200% annually — figures that show a market moving beyond pilots to performance-driven adoption. When innovation begins showing up in tenders, that’s when transformation becomes inevitable.
