Faithful Patience

If I pray but receive no answer
I’ll endure in faithful patience
Like the dead forests of winter
Sure of the coming
Of the season of Life

In my patience
I place my trust in your hands
Persisting in silence
As you twist my soul
Cleansing the rag of its tainted water

When the hour of your answer strikes
Like the light that breaks free
From the darkest of clouds
I will give thanks
In both tears and laughter

My wings will spread wide
Carried by Love through open skies
And I will leave behind
The broken home
I lived in patiently
Before you brought me Life

As dawn today rises inside me
The aches of the night fold
Sun rays seep through my window
Your warm touch, your kiss I hold

My heart wanders to my thoughts
Coloured grey, It’s so confused
What’s love when freedom’s lost?
I know now what I must do

I search deep in your sleepy eyes
To me, they speak a thousand words
You are the bird, I am the cage
It is time I relinquish the key

And with this key I give my self
But selflessness is one with love
Quietly I wait in silent prayer
Hoping for the day you return

Flutter your wings and sail away
Let them take you to the highest plains
I shall remain in this abode
Your soul nesting in my arms

And if you return, return in love
Carried back by freedom’s wings
But if the wind keeps you away
Then my heart is not your home

Book Review: My Wings

Just Patty (Patty Van Deft) has just released her new book of Poetry entitled ‘My Wings’. Essentially, she has split the book into two parts. The first is an exploration of her dark side and the second her light side. In doing so, Patty’s book takes the reader through the whole spectrum of human experience. Fear, pain, loss, anxiety, hope, joy and courage. This makes reading ‘My Wings’ an extremely personal experience that speaks directly to every reader.
