Episode 5 of Up Close & Personal S3 is out. In this episode, Alex Beard, Senior Director at Teach For All’s Global Learning Lab, sits with host Alron Chittedam, in rethinking systems & change. From questioning outdated education systems to exploring the power of collective action, Alex reflects on why meaningful change goes beyond policy and depends on people, trust, relationships, and local leadership. He also shares why education’s biggest challenge may not just be access or learning outcomes, but the world’s lack of attention towards education itself. 🔴 Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gXJJbJYz 🟢 Listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gxnDrHyW #InvokEDStudio #InvokED2026 #CandidConversations #CollectiveAction #SystemsChange

The future is collective! Inspired by the "Reimagining 1 Million Public Schools in India" event hosted by Mantra4Change and ShikshaLokam this past weekend, I was reminded of the emergent strategy concept of "small is all," developed by adrienne maree brown. This concept suggests that small-scale actions, interactions, and relationships are the building blocks of large-scale systems change. Evidence of the Collective Action they are leading: • Movement building from bottom to top: so far, there have been over 32,000 community chaupals where mothers and families organize around school improvement. Hyper-local voices are captured via AI tools and synthesized into system signals. Agency is distributed from the micro/hyper-local level all the way up to the state through training, relationship building, and steady, distributed work. • Shikshalokam is fostering a systems-wide culture of micro-improvements to address community and education issues, from chaupals to education ministers of state. These small, locally-led changes accumulate across thousands of schools, impacting everything from classrooms to policy. •SD Shibulal, founder of Infosys, challenged us to consider that the education crisis in India is a crisis of belief and agency. Systems shift when people see themselves as agents of change, not just recipients. This highlights the true power of collective action. "Education is the path to prosperity. The education crisis is not a lack of funding or policy, but a lack of belief. Systems do not transform by merely adding resources, but when people recognize their role in improvement. Progress occurs when collective action is shared."

Collaboration is widely recognised as essential in the social sector. Yet it remains uncommon in practice. In this piece for India Development Review (IDR), Pritha Venkatachalam(Partner at The Bridgespan Group) and Kashyap Shah (Head and partner at The Bridgespan Group) draw on a study of 13 Indian philanthropic collaboratives to examine “why”. They argue that as the problems facing India grow more complex, collaboratives — funders, nonprofits, and governments working together around a shared mission — are becoming essential rather than optional. They identify three things that distinguish collaboratives that succeed from those that do not. Swipe through for the key ideas. 👇 🔗 Link to the article in the comments

For years, India’s education conversation has rightly focused on foundational literacy and numeracy. But there’s another challenge hiding in plain sight: the middle school. In our latest piece for the Hindustan Times, Khushboo Awasthi and I explore why grades 6–8 may be the most critical—and overlooked—stage in India’s education system. https://lnkd.in/g-94iyBS Saurabh Singh | Arindam Bose ShikshaLokam | National Institute of Advanced Studies #PBL #MiddleSchools

One Mother's Courage. Many Girls' Futures. "Girls will get married anyway." "Daughters are liabilities." These are a few of the many deep-rooted societal norms restricting the futures of countless girls. This Mother's Day, we honour the mothers who refused to stay silent. Mothers who chose to stand up and challenge these norms instead of passing them on. Mothers who walk miles, knocking on doors, sitting with families, and gathering other women through Shiksha Chaupals. What begins as one mother questioning the rules she inherited slowly becomes a shift in her village. And from one village, it begins to move into many. A shift in who gets to dream, who gets to study, and who gets to decide. Stand with and support the mothers leading this change by donating here: https://bit.ly/49eRUgk Know a mother whose courage is shaping many futures?
