Before our trip my dear friend N came to Finland. We had just one day together but it was a good slow one. Coffee and cake at a very sweet newish Helsinki café, lunch at Zucchini, talking and walking around.
V tested the architect paper N brought her. X-girl duplicated.

I'm trying to have a nice quiet day after a lot of action and company! But kids are in a different mood. Now it's time to hang some laundry. I like that.
Before midsummer we went to Haapsalu, Estonia. Our first family summer holiday trip ever. And a town where we didn't know anybody. We rented a newly renovated house by the sea. Just by chance, via a friend.
Haapsalu was swans and baby swans, beautiful houses and gardens, Ilon Wikland's illustrations, playgrounds, cafés, tiny seashells. I enjoyed walking everywhere every day. And we brought V's friend along! A new step in parenting, and in kid friendships. It was super nice. Watching them giggle together every day made me so happy. And having an outside member with us all the time made the whole holiday pretty peaceful.
A midsummer fire by the mill. There was a great old skinny mustache guy whom the others called the Pyromaniac who lit the big fire. It was the first time for V to see this. The last time I saw a fire like this was in Suomenlinna in the end of the 90's. It was a furious fire, a bit scary. V was a bit worried.
We had two families at our place for "juhannus" and it was all good and laid-back.

Juhannus, vähän harvinaislaatuisesti meillä kotona. Käytiin eka kertaa katsomassa kokkoa. Se oli aika jännää. Kivat tutut vieraat, iisi meininki.
For almost all of the 4 hours that the kids' yard party was supposed to happen, it was raining. But it didn't matter! There were people, kids we didn't know or hadn't invited personally. Who knows how many people would've shown up if the weather had been sunny? In the morning I felt ready to give up, thinking there just aren't people for this kind of event in this area. But it all turned out very well and we had some sparkling wine afterwards. We are just 4 ladies but we can make it happen. 2 of us are already grandmothers!
It is so nice to be out in the rain, I don't hang out in the rain very much.

It is June and Monday. The sun is back after some cold and rainy days. The kids' party (like the one we organized last year) is this week, hope the weather stays ok. V invented a funny character, the X-girl.
