Honouring the winners of the Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2026. We are delighted to present students Viola Schmidt and Halla Lilja Ármannsdóttir from The Swedish School of Textiles - University of Borås. Their project, “Glitsky – Mother of Pearl”, draws inspiration from a phenomenon in which sunlight strikes crystallised clouds, transforming them into iridescent, mesmerising displays of colour. This vision is translated into cashmere and innovative yarns, brought to life in a transformable, modular garment. Congratulations to the students who will now see their creations come to life in our yarn and knitwear factories, embodying the excellence of our craftsmanship. Bound by a shared passion for knitwear design. The Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2026, hosted inside the Galleria Rossana Orlandi in Milan, inspires students from eight world-leading fashion and design schools to experiment with colour and light by combining cashmere with an array of special yarns, including shimmering lurex, metallic threads, and optical fibres. The resulting silhouettes speak of surprise and innovation, with unique effects within the subtlest details. Unveiling the Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2026, Knitting Light – Craft on the Evolution of Colour. Now in its 10-year anniversary, the Knit Design Award invites students from leading fashion and design schools from around the world to reinterpret our Maison’s signature yarns. For this year’s edition, circling around the notion of Knitting Light, participants are encouraged to explore the spectrum of our House’s vibrant nuances through innovative mélange and mouliné yarns. Presenting Studies, Chapter I: On the Plaid, an installation devoted to a central element of the interior vocabulary. For Milan Design Week 2026, Loro Piana introduces the first of a series of case studies focused on a specific object, starting with the plaid. From the mid-1980s, plaids were among the House’s first finished products, where materials and techniques could be explored with creative freedom. The display builds on this approach, and adopts a curatorial language, showcasing the plaids as the result of a precise practice. Approached like couture, these are exclusive creations that reveal a culture of excellence rooted in fibre, craft, and nature. We are proud to announce the winners of the 27th edition of the Loro Piana Record Bale Award at the Tokyo National Museum.   “The Loro Piana Record Bale Award celebrates the world’s finest Merino wool bale, recognising breeders who achieve unparalleled fineness. Established in 1997 by Pier Luigi Loro Piana, it has pushed the boundaries of wool from a 13.8-micron benchmark to this edition’s winners reaching 10.4 and 11.2 microns, a significant refinement in fibre diameter. This award is also the foundation of our The Gift of Kings® Excellence, the rare 12-micron wool created by the select New Zealand and Australian breeders participating in the competition,” says our CEO, Frédéric Arnault. The 2025 award goes to the Pyrenees Park farm in Australia and the Earnscleugh farm in New Zealand.
