Journal Pages 2025 – Circle #23

Circle #23, 18 cms (7″ approx.), cotton, acrylic paint,
embroidery thread

A collaboration with my sister of some kind. She made this linocut in art class at school decades ago. I kept it when she discarded her works. Some time ago I pulled a test print from the linocut from which I cut this circle. After some thinking and testing I decided to leave it as is.

Printing class at T&T

I finally managed to get to see the exhibition of the five workshops at Tuch & Technik in Neumünster, SH, Germany, with my focus being the printing class I attended. Also in this exhibiton, which will close on October 5, 2025, are pieces from the patchwork, fabric collage, weaving and crochet classes (OK, they ended up with hand-wound balls of yarn…)

Good news: I just learned that the exhibition will move to Muszeum Fabryki (Textile Musum) in Lodz, Poland, in January/February, 2026.

Impressions from the printing workshop and some information are here.

display of some of the works from the printing class – mine is the blue one in the bottom row

Here are some process photos I can share now:

bottom layer: prints on cotton fabric
top layer: prints on light blue mesh fabric in blue and transparent with silver glitter – the transparent showed up as a ghost layer because of some residue from the blue paint that had seeped into the stamp – a happy accident
both layers on top of each other, hand stitched together at the top edge
top layer cut into strips
close-up of top layer – the tiny white specks are the glitter particles

Impressions from a printing class at T & T

Last summer I found a leaflet announcing five classes at Tuch + Technik, the Textile Museum in Neumünster, SH, Germany. And imagine – the classes were free as they were part of an art project for everyone. I signed up for three of the classes, got the print class in early March 2025 and was put on the waiting list for the others (no luck there, alas).

Our tutor, Turkish artist Mr Erdal Ateş from Ankara, brought stamps that were made especially for this class by an experienced carver out of linden wood. On day one we made test prints, on day two we colored in the prints. Day three was dedicated to freestyle work.

Examples from all of the five classes will be shown in an exhibition at T+T from May until October 2025. I entered two of my pieces (which are not shown above). Pictures of the exhibition to follow in due time.
