Broken leaves katauta

Broken leaves fallen
abandoned to the gutter
and yet with green remaining

Filled with zest

The sun is pale, it's lost its strength
days are shorter now in length
The warmth's abandoned us to cold
and in my bones I'm feeling old
Just like the year now past its prime
fading now and lost to time
I'm tired, lacklustre, slowing down
as green to gold turns now to brown

And yet around the corner there
a glint of light waits now to share
of crystal days, cold yes, but bright
as winter looms just out of sight
And then with promise of that truth
when old gives way to fledgling youth
I waken knowing that the best
is still to come and filled with zest

Of gold III

3 of 3

This wealth is fleeting, no hoarder's gain
no vaults to hold, though savers might
see interest building if they dared
to lift the veil that masks the sight

For here is treasure, boundless, free
a gold to harness, hold and share
as summer fades and winter comes
preceded by the autumn's flair

Of gold II

2 of 3

Falls to swirls of underfoot crunching
in fading warmth faux pas of summer sun
the gold of autumn's wonder brings
the inner child to days of fun

Of gold I

1 of 3

It heralds quite the best of change
with reds and golds of treasure trove
and prospect of the joy to come
as through its falling leaves I rove
These walks in woodland at this time
as Summer's slumber takes a hold
epitomise a wondrous grace
bathed in these precious swathes of gold

(revisiting) an ode to Autumn

10 of 10 in the ‘Fading 23’ series

Pale-white shrinking golden glow
hovers over water slow
and morning waking slumber stays
as it peers slowly from the haze
Whimsy holds removed I see
a world at distance wistfully
as summer fades to distant glow
and cooler days I soon will know
A curtain call as evening falls
and summer into winter calls
Yet tangible with treasure hold
the Autumn swan-song bathed in gold

Season’s song (revisited)

9 of 10 in the ‘Fading 23’ series

I have a mind’s eye picture
of autumn here to find
which I’d like to share with you
and hope that you don’t mind
For though it’s one of fading
from a summer that’s now passed
it’s also one of hope
which I know is set to last

Yes the winter it is coming
and it will be long and cold
but to the autumn’s promise
throughout that I can hold
For I’ve entered an agreement
binding, absolute and strong
of a new hope come the Springtime
when I’ll sing that seasons song

(revisiting) Aspects of gold III

8 of 10 in the ‘Fading 23’ series

Part 3 of 3

Of the sunsets I’ve seen
these aspects of gold
are treasures to cherish
and assets to hold
For each is a promise
to capture and seize
from the sun in the sky
like a kiss on the breeze

(revisiting) Aspects of gold II

7 of 10 in the ‘Fading 23’ series

Part 2 of 3

On the footbridge returning
from a day on the beach
there’s a place where I stand
that’s within easy reach

to envelop myself
in the colours I see
and gaze out in wonder
as it falls around me

For here there are moments
to capture and hold
as each sunset settles
to aspects of gold

(revisiting) Aspects of gold I

6 of 10 in the ‘Fading 23’ series

Part 1 of 3

Golden the sunshine
Drips from the sky
To the water below
As sunsets come by
And the river just glows
To this golden encore
As I’m caught in the moment
With wonder and awe
