Slipslide

So these small chinks of light
I will grasp and hold precious
as darkness is never far away
and anything tangible beckons

One day slips into the next
Nothings stays steady. Things change
Ups and downs; mostly the latter
This turmoil is wearing

Somewhere there's a better land
yet sometimes that is so far away
So, though I seek and tread lightly
it often slip slides through my fingers

Every inch an effort

When every inch is an effort, finding the light
I'll admit can be tricky sometimes
So I thought it would help if I wrote some things down
and explained them in a few lines

Yes, my leg's getting better, the clots have dispersed
but the pain's still acute every day
So it takes me a while with forethought intense
to move in the simplest of way

Everything that I need must be in reach or I
some effort must spend to obtain
and that leaves me breathless for quite a while
and is always coupled with pain

The nocturnal small hours when I'm wide awake
means I'll usually sit in one place
and the writing's distraction, so that's comfort there
so I'm happy with that interface

But if I have to move for the simplest of things
particularly when there's no one around
That's when the light is harder to grasp
and the dark creeps in to confound

So I'm happy that now the end seems in sight
and that the disabled phase of this thing
is something that soon will be firm in the past
for the freedom which that will bring

Toward the light

I cannot go to the dark place
that would serve no purpose for me
So whenever I find myself slipping
to the light I will go naturally
That statement however, easier said than is done
so mechanisms to cope are in place
Writing is one and music another
to take me to that lighter space
The life I once knew is turned on its head
It's a new one here for me now
which is all about living one day at a time
In the light, not the dark. Anyhow.

Dodoitsu (beckoning)

Through the darkness shining bright
for peril or safe harbour
dependent on point of view
the light beckoning

[‘Dodoitsu’ is a Japanese non-rhyming poetic form with a syllabic sequence of 7-7-7-5]

Morning?

It's been said that the darkness
with the moon in the sky
speaks of the night time
though morning is nigh
Not that you'd know for
there's no light in sight
not even an inkling
in the blackness of night
Yet what is that glow
in the east very feint?
Yes, that is the the day
though at present it ain't!

Exuberance II

Glistening the water bathed in light served
as erudite reminder of Spring
emerging from the vice of winter
iron clad accedes to warmth
and with breath deep drawn
lungs were filled with fragrance new
a shining example of Spring's exuberance

Of oak leaves, glass and talented soulmates

Fresh out the kiln for autumn
oak leave inspired glass
bound for the stall in Lewes
purchased by those who pass

All crafted by my soulmate's hand
I'm hoping one will find
its way into my study
as I am that way inclined

Tactile as they are lovely
hung up to catch the light
these crafted glass creations
make for a lovely sight

Inspired by oak leaves found in a Sussex field to which we go regularly, these glass ‘light catchers’ are the latest batch to emerge from my soulmate Sal’s studio.

Lamp stand Lovely

Bought a new lampshade
it's small and petite
but on the old lamp stand
it looks nice and sweet
The lamp stand we've had
two score years and some
since we were first wed
and the two became one

So it holds for us precious
memories close to the heart
and just for that reason
it's pleasing to start
it on yet another
new lease of life
this precious old lamp stand
to me and my wife

Short back and sides

Gave the back garden
a bit of a trim
as it's amazing how quickly
the state it gets in
So the bushes out there
got a short back and sides
to give us more light
as each evening provides

And that is a factor
the later we get
and the shorter the day
and the quicker sunset
For the evenings are shorter
so the light up the top
is much better now
as it's had a good crop

Today

3 of 3 in the ‘Day’ series from Jemverse

Today I will probably work for a while
I’ll start about eight I would think
But first I’ll sit here and look at the world
as I’ve still some more coffee to drink

It’s raining today and the sky is all grey
yet still with hardly a breeze
But from the way that people are dressed up out there
I’ll not venture out lest I freeze

Today I will probably stay warm indoors
I’ll listen to music and smile
cosy and snuggled and comfy and home
where I’m happy to stay for a while
