Clever the weather

Weather inclement, forgetting September
the sun then that shone now hard to remember
as the rain and the wind do their best to dismember
the summer I knew at that time

But the precipitation is good for the garden
so I'm not one here for begging their pardon
nomenclature seeming to befit the jargon
of the summer that once was mine

Besides, as we know, this won't last forever
so no one can dwell on the 'never say never'
as weather is fickle and sometimes quite clever
to return to a summer that's fine

With wisdom

To Rodmell to Rodmell in late summer rain
the last day of August, inclement again
but for us, opportunity, less of a pain
now we are older and wise

The Abergervenny Arms and a beer
with food for the tasting, purpose quite clear
a short drive for us and relatively near
now we are older and wise

Monk's House and Virginia later today
to see where se wrote with something to say
just like us in her footsteps out for a play
now we are older and wise

To Rodmell to Rodmell in Sussex our home
where we with more time will frequently roam
at the start of our autumn thitherward in the gloam
now we are older and wise

Monk’s House is a 16th century weatherboarded cottage in Rodmell, East Sussex. It was home to the writer Virginia Woolf and her husband Leonard, who purchased it in 1919 for £700. The Woolf’s lived and worked from Monk’s House until Virginia’s death in 1941 and Leonard’s in 1969.

Now the raining’s come

Thunderstorm came late at night
woke me up with all the light
electric overhead the sight
but will the raining come?

Lightning strikes got ever bright
forced and angry, n'er contrite
matched with thunder in its might
but will the raining come?

Loud the noise, the thunder's blight
evident and quite forthright
exercising there its might
as here the raining comes

And now there is a comfort sound
as pitter patter on the ground
God's watering can at night is found
as now the raining comes

And though the storm is still around
with flash and rumble inward bound
this soothing falling now that's downed
is now as raining's come

Nature's glory duly crowned
with this latest summer round
and I'm no longer coiled and wound
now that the raining's come

Start VIII

8 of 12 in the ’12 month VI’ series

It's the first day of April and typical showers
I'd like to think here will be absent, not ours
For we've had quite our fill in March that's now past
of rain falling down, enough to well last
and do us for Spring which I hope is now here
Now April's upon as at this time of year

Sunshine smiles

Wrapping arms tightly around
the grey cloud in the sky
the sunshine warmly smiled
saying 'no more need to cry'
'You're done today, your tears have fed
the world down there below
but now it's time to rest
and let my smiles now gently glow'

The happenstance of precipitation

We didn't get much for most of the summer
which for farmers and gardeners
was a bit of a bummer
And we attest to that fact with good claim
as nothing much grew
which was quite a shame
Yet now in September in buckets it's falling
almost as if it had heard
all our calling

Soaked

Just before the thunderstorm
yellow in the sky
as heavy black clouds gathered
ominous on high
And then the heavens opened
and from it buckets came
as underneath the waterfall
we got soaked by rain

Rainfall

When the rain came at last
it was long overdue
not that the sunshine
we'd ever eschew
But the ground was so parched
and the water was low
so the need was profound
for the reservoir flow

And the farmers and gardeners
were mighty relieved
as the long lack of rainfall
had left them all peeved
So we danced as the patter
of raindrops fell fast
and the temperature dropped
for some respite at last

There was lightning

Out to sea off Brighton
a flash lit up the night
there, just outside the Shelter Hall
fleetingly in sight
But pausing for a moment there
and waiting patiently
whilst rain fell there in splatters
I got a shot for me
We never heard the thunder
but there was lightning there for sure
coupled with the heavy rain
which fell as down it poured

And the sun shone

And for a while the heat was quite intense
as the sun shone down from the sky
there was barely a breeze
to be felt on our knees
though the cloud to the east wasn't shy

As after a while it covered the blue
and brought welcome patters of rain
cooled us all down
as it wetted the ground
before the sun shone once again
