Concluding the ‘Places & Pleasing II’ series (12/12)
Sailing into Venice is there a better way? I certainly cannot think of one on this this lovely warm Monday The sunrise golden in the east The sky an azure blue As slowly through the islands we sail to this fine view
Nestling in the harbour
at the yacht club yesterday
a jolly pretty sailboat
I espied whilst on my way
So I made a little detour
across the Adur Ferry Bridge
so that I could take a photo
as a special privilege
For this was something special
canvas sails a-hoisted high
just waiting for the tide to turn
as we all wandered by
Sadly that was hours away
so I couldn't see it sail
but the sight I captured of it
makes for smiles here to regale
A ship is out there sailing
I can’t see it but it’s there
Out upon the ocean waves
of me, it’s unaware
And yet a synergy akin
we share both it and I
Affinity with ocean wide
as both go passing by
I’m landlocked now but often
to the seashore I am drawn
to gaze out to horizon
on an autumnal morn
And I know that out there somewhere
a ship is sailing by
And it, like me, will feel the sea
beneath a deep blue sky
Sailed several oceans
then came home for a rest
as the ocean of home
is always the best
For it’s here that my heart
with the sea that I know
will always stay true
wherever I go
Sailing into Venice
is there a better way?
I certainly cannot think of one
on this this lovely warm Monday
The sunrise golden in the east
The sky an azure blue
As slowly through the islands
we sail to this fine view
We sailed into the sunset
quite literally into gold
Leaving Bar behind us
to Korcula’s island old
The sky turned red around us
The sun sank to the sea
as into arms of gold we leapt
quite romantically
As Adriatic sunset came
the sun fell on the sea
and glinted golden on the waves
where it shone brilliantly
Dubrovnik settled to the dusk
as we set sail on par
leaving after nightfall
and heading off to Bar
Montenegro beckons now
The lights fade with the view
Dubrovnik has been wonderful
but now we’re off to somewhere new
Islands in the distance
across the azure seas
A force five blowing from the east
feels like a summer breeze
Kefalonia looming
on the horizon through the haze
For a seven-hour stopover
on the last but one of days
And it really is quite magical
here up at the prow
Watching our approach to land
so quiet and peaceful now

...all about me and my life in words. I write most days, carrying an ideas book around in which I capture a word snapshot of life around me. So there's a lot here about Sussex and the sea and anything else I see that inspires.
The pictures are mine too. Some taken to match a poem; some poems written to match a pic; others chosen because they work well with words written.
Jemverse is life in words. Hope you enjoy the reading as much as I enjoy the writing...
