Pay for a pee in Paris!

This is a quick jolly post to keep you going while I'm away in Paris.

We stopped for a cup of lemon tea ( I only drink it in France!) and I decided to seek out the toilet facilities. I was shocked to get to this door. In England, ladies public conveniences always had a box like this into which you had to pop a penny ( that's in old currency).

I have never seen them anywhere else in the world so was taken aback. I was just going back to hubby for some change when the proprietor pointed to a saucer on the side. It contained the necessary coins so I took one and 'spent a penny'. Well actually it was 20 cents but that's inflation for you!

Quite a walk for some peace!

It’s the school holidays in the UK so Tara over at ‘Sticky Fingers’ is hoping to get some peace and quiet. I’m not sure that peace and quiet actually go in the same sentence as school holidays but she asked us to find some for her.

I’m taking you on a very long climb up to Saint Michael d’Aignilhe chapel in Le Puy-en-Velay which is in the south central area of France. The chapel is situated on top of a rocky out-crop. These strange natural pinnacles (there are 3) dominate the town which is settled between them.

We visited at a time when my back was sore but I was determined to get to the top. Although it took ages, it was well worth the effort. The chapel although tiny is magnificent with the most wonderful vaulted ceiling that has been beautifully decorated. Timing is all at these places but I hope you can see the peace that I gained from sitting and looking in wonder when the rest of the world had come and gone!

Fort La Latte – home of Vikings!

We are already at the letter ‘F’ for Alphabe- Thursday over at Jenny Matlock’s ‘Off on My Tangent’! I am taking you to France again for this letter but also to a distant time!

This castle is actually a fort. You’ll see from the pictures that it is out on a premonitory and faces the sea on the north Brittany coast.

Apart from being a spectacular sight, we visited for another reason. My husband is a great fan of the film ‘The Vikings’, the 1958 version. It is the story of violence, greed and of course love. The stars included Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas and Janet Leigh. To cut a long story short, the brothers fight over her at the end!

However, the fight scene right at the end of the film is shot on the top of the Fort. It is one of hubby’s favourite moments of the film so he HAD to re-enact it!

The Vikings

Just so you can double check the authenticity here is the actual scene. It’s worth a watch! As he was doing his Thespian bit, a passing visitor said’ Ah Tony Curtis!’ to which Nick replied ‘No Kirk Douglas!’

Win FREE Family Breaks to Disneyland Paris

Win a free family holiday to Disney

Now the summer holidays are over and the children are, hopefully, back into the routine of school. The weather is showing us that the holiday season is behind us and winter is fast approaching. HOWEVER – what could be better than looking forward to your next break?

P&O Ferries has teamed up with Disneyland Paris to offer two lucky families the chance to experience a two-night/three-day break to Disneyland Paris for free – the prizes include return ferry crossings, park entry and accommodation in the park too.

To enter the competition you just need to go to the P&O Ferries Facebook page and ‘like’ it. Then upload a video or a photo of your family having fun and get your friends to vote for your entry. There are two prizes – one for the most popular photo and one for the most popular video. So get your friends to vote for your and you to give yourself the best chance of winning.

Even if you don’t have pics or video to upload, you can still take advantage of a Free Disney Ticket Offer – visit the P&O Ferries Facebook page and book a return crossing for a car and passengers and you’ll get a free adult Disneyland Paris ticket worth £51.

The competition closes on 21st September – so don’t hang around! The longer your video or photo is up there, the more votes it’s likely to get!

Now, you know I don’t normally DO these sort of posts but I couldn’t resist sharing it with you all because you are great vloggers and photographers and who wouldn’t want to meet Micky!

This is a sponsored post for which I received a payment of money and the photos are courtesy of Disney
