Writing 101 – Serially Lost (1)

Another thank you to Gilly over at Lucid Gypsy for getting me going on this!

Michelle W over at Daily Post says:

Write about a loss: something (or someone) that was part of your life, and isn’t any more.

This doesn’t need to be a depressing exercise; you can write about that time you lost the three-legged race at a picnic. What’s important is reflecting on this experience and what it meant for you — how it felt, why it happened, and what changed because of it.

Today’s twist: Make today’s post the first in a three-post series.

The au pair job had been a failure so I returned home with my tail between my legs. Mother was scathing as expected but Daddy just gave me that smile that says ‘Never mind’.

I was feeling listless. Pub, my head told me.

The usual gang was there and although I had been away for a while it didn’t take long to slot back in. As always Jimmy had the floor and was regaling about his latest acquisition – a beach buggy! I’m sure there were others who although outwardly frowning were like me inwardly a little jealous. He was always able to go where his mood took him.

The conversation turned to an event later in the week and somehow we all moved into the other bar probably to grab some more participants. Neither bar had a particular character but thinking about it the older generation were to be found more in one than the other. This conversation was for the ‘young bar’.

My attention was drawn to your pink shirt. It was a great contrast to that mop of black curly hair that seemed to be more of a hat that a hair style. I’m not even sure how we got talking but we did.

‘I’ll pick you up about 7 then?’

‘Yes. That will be fine.’

Weekly Photo Challenge: Love

The theme of ‘Love’ from the Daily Post team for Weekly Photo Challenge seemed easy at first. However, when I read through they wanted a NEW photo so I was on the look-out for one. I also wanted to try out some of the apps I have been storing on my iphone /pad.

We went to London at the week-end. It was my birthday and I was also attending a workshop. On the Sunday, we joined a large number of people to do a Subterranean Walk. This is a free walk around the streets with a guide who tells you all sorts of interesting things about what is going on under your feet!

Among the group were these two. I added a frame and effect using Pixlr.

New Ring, Old Love

Alphabe -Thursday the great weekly meme over at Jenny Matlock’s blog has reached the letter ‘N’. Where do the weeks go?!

For this post I need you to find your romantic side Dear Reader. Come on, you know you have one somewhere, just dig about & find it. The reason I need you to be romantic is because this is an ‘Ahhh’ post.

This week saw hubby and I celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first time we went on a date. We both knew that the other one was special and we soon became an ‘item’. To mark this Nick bought me a dress ring as a token of his feelings. Neither of us knew that within a few weeks we would be talking of getting married. The reason it all came so soon was partly that we were not spring chickens but also my son was just moving into secondary school and the teacher in me would not moved him half way through his high school career so it was either sooner or much later.

We chose sooner and told our friends that we were getting married. As I had already got a ring, I didn’t feel I should push for an engagement ring because the one I had would be fine. However, 25 years later I have felt it’s loss and we have finally bought an engagement ring!

Isn’t it  beautiful? Diamonds and sapphires and it fits wonderfully with my wedding ring. So, I’m a happy bunny.

Thank you for being romantic and do pop over to Jenny’s place for some more ‘N’ posts.

Links of Love

The letter is ‘L’ this week for Alphabe Thursday. My recent visit to Paris showed me a new phenomenon and it fits beautifully with ‘L’

Those of you who know Paris will remember it has many bridges crossing the Seine. They are now covered in locks. No – I don’t mean the locks like you get on a canal. I mean locks that you use to secure something. There are all sorts of sizes and colours. Some of them have writing on them and they are all locked with no keys.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I have decided that they are tokens of love and gratitude from one person to another. They are there locked forever as a sign of real devotion. I think it is a super idea!

Have you seen anything similar where you are?

Do pop over to Jenny Matlock’s fabulous blog to see more ‘L’ posts!

Weather Forecast!

Jenny has come over all generous this week and given us a the chance to use the prompt AND 50 additional words. She is feeling so good that she has said we can use a picture if we want! What’s this all about? Well it is Saturday Centus, a weekly challenge which normally has 100 words added to a prompt. You can find out all about it by clicking the badge below my piece. I have put the prompt words in BLUE.

‘You are my sunshine…’

As she sang along she thought – yes that’s what he is.

Spring warmth at first then the summer of hot desire moved in. Now a pleasant autumnal warmth has settled. Even when it can’t be seen the sun is there….

Yes he’s definitely MY sunshine!

My Hero?!

Over at Sticky Fingers this week, the Gallery is looking at ‘Emotions’. They are the things that make us humans a little different from most creatures on earth.

My choice is of my hero! As you can see he is trying to be a really strong man! Eat your heart out Victor Mature! (ref: Samson & Delilah)

Now pop over to Tara’s & see some more ‘Emotions’!
