Missed it!

This post is for Saturday Centus a brilliant creative writing meme thought up by the wonderful Jenny Matlock. She gives you a prompt of a few worsds & you have to use them plus no more than 100 words to make a creative piece! Brilliant! Pop over here to read the others. Here’s mine! It is a TRUE story!

“May I help you, miss? You look puzzled.”

“Mmmm… thank you, I’m just looking for my father. We came in together a moment ago, but he seems to have wandered off.”

I couldn’t wait any longer. I had to get ready. I was so excited that at last Daddy could hear me play in the annual music festival. Before I knew it, I was on. I took my music & placed it carefully. I didn’t dare look. Seeing him would make the nerves race!

The applause was deafening!

I rushed outside but he was nowhere to be seen. I waited a few minutes & as he came  round the corner realized he’d missed it! He’d been in the wrong hall!

Tales from the Head’s Office!#2

Having retired as a primary head teacher & following the suggestion of my dear friend Paula I have decided to write an occasional series about the highs & lows of my headship career. It spanned 13 years & included 3 schools. I hope you enjoy my tales!

Paula over at Battling On  has also ‘gone musical’  with her latest post.  Coincidently, I had been cooking up a music meme of my own along similar lines so I’m going to take a little poetical licence & combine them. My idea came when we were driving home listening to David Jacobs when he played the multi part ‘Tonight’ from West Side Story. I don’t know if you know it but it where all the protagonists are getting ready to go out. It is a fantastic piece of opera & it makes me cry. I always want to sing all the parts. So, I got to thinking of other ‘popular’ pieces that have the same effect. As soon as you hear the first chords you’re welling up. So here, after a great deal of thought are my 5. I challenge you to listen & not have quivering lips! Continue reading

Move Over Liberace!

I can’t remember when we got the piano. It was an old upright. The sort you might see in a pub back in the fifties. I’ve no idea where it came from either or why we got it. Mother had played as a child apparently but had never given me the impression that it was something that was missing in her life that needed replacing. Continue reading
