Merry, featuring Pinkfresh Studio

Hello crafty friends! Today I’m on the Pinkfresh Studio blog, and I’m sharing another holiday layout using PFS’s holiday collection Oh What Fun!

Are there techniques that you’ve always wanted to try, but never have for whatever reason? For me, it’s the chevron technique that I’ve seen several of my fellow scrapbookers create (i.e. Paige Evans). I wanted to use some of the gorgeous pattern papers from the 6×6 paper pad, and so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to give the chevron technique a try.

I started off by trimming a 1 3/4 inch strip from a few of the 6×6 pattern papers. I cut the strip into 1 3/4 in squares, then trimmed then diagonally down the middle to create triangles, and distressed the edges a little bit. I laid the triangles out on my desk creating the chevron pattern, trying to decide on a pattern. I tried random, I tried using the same pattern for each parallelogram piece, but in the end, I decided for a tone on tone piece. For example, for one parallelogram piece, I used the pink plaid pattern paper, along with the pink pattern paper with all the christmas images.

Next, I chose a light pink cardstock, and splattered it with white splatters and red splatters. (I mixed the Candy Apple and a little bit of Clementine watercolors to create a warm red.) Then, I adhered the chevron pattern on the cardstock using just a little bit of adhesive. I wanted to add machine stitching the the pattern to create a more cohesive quilted look.

I knew I wanted a little bit of color peeking behind my photo, so I planned out where I wanted it to go, and stamped a pattern directly to the cardstock. I used the Nested Chevron stamp with the Coral Reef ink. I backed my photo with one of the 6×6 papers, and then adhered it with foam squares on top of the image I just stamped. Next, I looked through the collection to figure out how I wanted to embellish the layout. I picked a tag from the Journaling Bits set with the Ho Ho Ho sentiment (very fitting for a Santa layout), and adhered it slightly on top of the photo.

I decided to use the word Merry from the puffy phrase stickers as my title. Once I adhered it to the layout, I decided to add stitching through the sticker, and then added more stitched lines to use as lines for my journaling.

To finish off the layout, I added just a few embellishments. I added a few floral pieces from the ephemera pack, a few puffy stickers, a chipboard sticker, a few pieces that I fussy cut from pattern papers, and enamel dots.

I am so thrilled with how this layout turned out, and I’m so glad that I made a chevron paper layout! I hope you were inspired by my layout, and I hope you’ll give a new technique a try.

Happy Monday!

Christmas Magic, featuring Pinkfresh Studio

Hello friends! Today I’m on the Pinkfresh Studio blog, and I’m sharing my first holiday layout of the year using PFS’s new holiday collection Oh What Fun!

Since I make a December Daily album each year, holiday layouts usually take a backseat. However, I do like to scrapbook our Christmas cards from each year, so this is me documenting last year’s card.

I decided that I wanted to make a wreath using all the little Christmas bits and pieces from the collection. I started by spattering some color in a circular pattern on white cardstock. I used the Pinkfresh Studio watercolor in Emerald City and Candy Apple. I watered down the watercolors for a more subtle look. Next, I used light pink thread to add machine stitching in wonky circles.

I added the Christmas card to the layout, a little to the bottom right. Next, I began creating the wreath with lots of embellishments puzzle pieced together. I glued some pieces straight to the cardsatock, while adding others with foam tape for some dimension and interest.

I used pieces from the ephemera pack, puffy stickers, chipboard stickers, enamel dots, and I fussy cut some pieces from the 6×6 paper pad, as well as the Season of Joy pattern paper.

For my title, I used a puffy sticker that says Christmas Magic, which is the perfect sentiment for my layout.

To add another layer of detail, and to fill in some of the smaller spots, I used the Home for the Holiday stamp set to stamp tiny snowflakes. I used the Starry Night ink cube set.

To finish off my layout, I trimmed a little bit of the white cardstock from all four sides, roughened up the edges, and then mounted it on the Holiday Walk pattern paper. I added machine stitching along the edges.

I loved pieces all of these embellishments together, and the Season of Joy pattern paper was made for fussy cutting! I am so glad to have last year’s card documented, and I hope you were inspired by my layout.

Happy Friday!

2 Christmas cards, featuring Spellbinders November 2020 Large Die of the Month

Hey friends! Today I’m sharing two cards that I made using Spellbinders’ November 2020 Large Die of the Month kit (LDOM) called Merry Stitching.

This month’s kit comes with 6 cutting dies. Three of the dies are dies that you can add hand stitching; there is a tree, snowflake, and a decorative border. These dies diecut little holes and emboss lines that you can use as a stitching guide. The other 3 dies you can use to cut out the shape.

Here are the cards that I came up with.

For my first card, I used both of the tree dies; I diecut the tree from white cardstock using my Spellbinders Platinum 6 die cutting machine. Next, I used red crochet thread to stitch the pattern using the embossed lines. Once finished, I set the tree aside to work on my background layering pieces.

On another piece of white cardstock, I repeatedly used the fancy border die to create an intricate pattern for the background. I trimmed the piece slightly and adhered it to an A2 sized white cardbase with foam tape.

Next, I used a glimmer foil sentiment plate from the Shimmering Merry Christmas sentiments set, but instead of foiling it, I decided to try to use it for “letter pressing.” I placed the sentiment on the glimmer hot plate (I did not turn the glimmer machine on). Then I used my Candied Apple Distress Oxide Ink pad, and lightly inked the surface of the sentiment. I carefully added a piece of white cardstock on top, the 2 spacers, and then ran it through my platinum diecutting machine. Next, I used one of the scalloped dies from the Fancy Edged Rectangles die, which seems to be no longer available, to diecut the sentiment. I adhered that to the background with more foam tape, and then I glued the stitched tree on top. To finish off the card, I added some pearls.

For my next card, I used the snowflake dies. I added stitching with glue crochet thread.

Again, I letter pressed the sentiment using Broken China Distress Oxide ink, and one of the Merry Christmas glimmer sentiments. I diecut the sentiment piece, and another piece of white cardstock using 2 of the fancy rectangle dies. I adhered them to a white cardbase with foam tape, then glued the snowflake on top. To finish off this card, I added a large jewel right to the center of the snowflake.

I really love how these cards have turned out. Since I used a lot of white on white, the impact is all in the subtle details., and really allow the stitching and the sentiments to shine.

I hope you like my cards as much as I do, and I hope you got some crafty inspiration! Make sure you head on over to the Spellbinders site to check out this month’s Large Die of the Month kit.

Happy Friday!
