I had found the perfect dress to convey my story of Eos for the Myths/Legends for the MVW Challenge. The problem, for me, was it was too perfect. I could not see anyway to use parts from other gowns to make it better. But for challenges you are encouraged to make an outfit even better by combining parts. So, what do I do? I tried really hard to make the outfit work with pieces from other gowns. This is the gown I came up with. But, in the end, I went with the perfect gown, for me, it really was. I was sad to learn that I had not placed in the top ten, but I will try even harder on the next challenge.

In my dress you see the merging of the stars of the night and the golden sparkle of the dawn. My myth is Eos, the Goddess of the dawn, born at the dawn of all time.

At the start of each day her golden rays of light slip up into the black of night embracing the stars of the night. Some days she rode in her golden chariot drawn by winged horses. Some days she flew into the dawn with wings of gold.

She was the mother of all the stars and planets. It is her tears that create the morning dew. Her father was Hyperion, the bringer of light. Her brother was the sun god, Helios. Her sister was Selene the moon goddess. Her sons were the gods of wind.

I chose Eos showing that in the dawn of each new day we have the opportunity to start anew. We decide who and what we are, what path we take. No matter what yesterday was, today, we choose what our tomorrows will be.

As the fingers of dawn reach out to the stars of the night, my dress is a reflection of this most magical time of day.

The dawn reflects my life. Everyday is a new opportunity to show your light.

“Extravaganza Fashion Inspired by Qi Gang”

When I started researching Qi Gang I was mesmerized by his style. But, I realized I had gone too far when, my tabbing with Pinterest was showing the pictures I had already added! It was time to stop stalling and start putting an outfit together. I finished two outfits and then spent a few days trying to decide. I finally decided to go with my feeling and I picked this one.

When a the challenge is first given, you stop and think. Where will you get your inspiration? For me, I wait for one thing that starts my inspiration. I had looked through all the pictures that were about “Folklore Fall/Winter High Couture”, and put them up on my Pinterest page. I knew I had gone too far when the only things that came back were from my page! I must stop looking at the pictures from the real world and start looking in Second Life. When I saw the Gown: *Wh.I* – Royalty, I finally had my starting point. The Aztec design of the dress took me into researching Aztec Folklore.

In Aztec mythology, Coyolxauhqui (“golden bells”) was a moon goddess. She was a daughter of Coatlicue and the ruler of the Centzon Huitznahuas, the star gods. She was a powerful magician and led her siblings in an attack on their mother, Coatlicue, because she became pregnant in a shameful way (by a ball of feathers). Coatlicue’s fetus, Huitzilopochtli, sprang from her womb in full war armour and killed Coyolxauhqui, along with many of the brothers and sisters. He cut off her limbs, then tossed her head into the sky where it became the moon, so that his mother would be comforted in seeing her daughter in the sky every night.

That was the background for starting my outfit. I saw the Aztec inspired necklace in one of SL’s magazines. All the parts started to come together for my thought on Aztec Folklore.
