The AMWIK team paid a courtesy call on the Communications Network for Catholic Sisters (CNCS Kenya), a testament to our ongoing quest to broaden the reach of women’s voices across all sectors. Following our successful partnership at the Women in Media Conference 2026, we have continued to deepen this relationship by identifying mutual interests in training gaps, policy adoption and advocacy. By uniting with partners who share our commitment to gender-responsive media, we are expanding our professional network and ensuring that the diverse experiences of women are elevated. #IamAMWIK

AMWIK is a Media Association established in 1982 and registered under the Societies Act as a non-profit organization.
About us
Established in 1982, the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) is a national independent, non-profit, membership organization for women in media. Founded prior to the UN Women’s Conference held in Nairobi in 1985, when the voices of women received little or no attention in the media, AMWIK’s vision is to see a society in which the media embraces and promotes equitable development, human rights and women rights. AMWIK’s mission is to use the media to promote an informed and gender responsive society in Kenya and Africa.

The #PanAfricanMediaSummit2026 officially launched, bringing together visionary leaders to address the shifting landscape of African journalism and information integrity. Here are the key highlights from our opening session: On Accountability & Evolution “The media ecosystem has evolved rapidly, and the integrity of information is now at stake. That is why we are gathered here today to demand accountability.”— David Omwoyo, CEO, Media Council of Kenya (MCK) On Empowerment & Narrative “An informed society is an empowered society. The media has exposed corruption, mobilized responses to crises, and projected African excellence to the world. A positive media builds public confidence, celebrates our entrepreneurship, and expands our sense of what is possible.”— H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary, IGAD secretariat On Safety & Inclusion “This summit offers a chance to diagnose challenges in our information spaces. Women face disproportionate challenges in the media, including sexual harassment. We must enhance the safety of our media environments.”— Dr. James Asante Kwaku, RTI Commission Ghana On Democracy & Development “Safeguarding information integrity is essential to protecting democracy, human rights, and sustainable development.”— H.E. Henk Jan Bakker, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Kenya. Follow the Summit live here: https://lnkd.in/dUZPAzAH #MediaIntegrity #PressFreedom
